Friday Finals: Toledo wins epic shootout over Mountain Cats

Michigan 2 @ Toledo 3 (SO) – Joe Lopez made 50 saves and then had to face 14 shooters in the shootout, but it wasn’t enough as the Mountain Cats were edged by the Cherokee, 3-2. The shootout took 27 combined players before Dominic Pisanti finally won things for the Cherokee. Kyler Omey and Hudson Sabin scored to put Toledo up 2-0, but Michigan responded back with goals from Zach Collins and Mathieu Ouellette to tie things up. Boxscore

Twin City 4 @ Alexandria 2 – The Steel scored the middle four goals on their way to a big 4-2 road win in Alexandria on Friday. Jackson Germaine returned from his stint in the NAHL to make 33 saves in the win. Jace Childs added three assists. Ian Ecklund put Alexandria up 1-0, but two goals from Sam Basich and others from Calvin Miska and Joonas Huovinen. Tom Schmidt had the other goal for the Blizzard. Boxscore

Wisconsin 4 @ Chicago 5 – Despite being outshot 61-29, the Bulldogs got 57 saves from Joey Garapolo in a 5-4 win. Chicago was up 3-2 after two periods, but Wisconsin had taken a 4-3 lead in the 3rd period on goals from Zack Johnson and Kaleb Morley. However, two goals in the final eight minutes from Vince Bartkowiak and Toms Taurins gave Chicago the win. Mitch Riese and Ryan Martin had the other goals for the Whalers, while Ryan Maksimovic, Luke Morin and Jeremy Szczurek scored for the Bulldogs. Boxscore
