Friday Finals: Flint headed to Silver Cup

Dallas 6 @ Topeka 4 (Dalllas leads best of three series, 1-0) – Dallas gets a big win to go up 1-0 in the first game of the series. Topeka gets out on top with an early goal just 22 seconds into the game. Tommy Malkmus scored the goal, with assists from Kupaks and Busch. Dallas then ties it up with a short-handed goal from Brandon Salisbury. Topeka’s Connor Nicholas gets a power play goal to get back on top, but Dallas ties it up before the periods over with a goal from McIntyre. In the 2nd only 2 goals were put up on the board, one for each team. Goals came from Dallas’ Jake Gevaart on a power play and Topeka’s Hardijs Kupaks. In the 3rd Dallas took back the lead with three goals, two coming from Gevaart and one from Petrich. Topeka only managed to get one from Kupaks. Chris Mallon gets the win in net with 27 saves. St. Louis 4 @ Peoria 5 (Peoria leads best of three series, 1-0) - Peoria takes the win to go on top in the series 1-0.  St. Louis starts the scoring off with a power play goal from Adam Roeder. Peoria then counters with two goals from Marshall Gevers to go on top 2-1. Before the period is over St. Louis gets a power play goal from Alex Klaesner to tie things back up at two a piece. In the 2nd Peoria scores first on a power play goal from Andrew Scofield. Getting assists on the play were Chasteen and Turner. Peoria then adds another from Levi Armstrong. Halfway through the 2nd St. Louis manages to tack on one more from Mike Lozano. In the 3rd Peoria adds another from Sam Turner and St. Louis gets one from Tommy Heinzman but Peoria holds them off for the win. Marc Hayton gets the win in net with 38 saves. Boxscore

Granite City 3 @ North Iowa 4 (North Iowa leads best of three series, 1-0) – 1,403 people were in attendance in tonight’s show down. North Iowa gets a strong start with three unanswered goals. The goals came from Ian Penvose, Conor Jonasson, and Rihards Marenis. Granite City gets a point on the board before the 1st period ends with a goal from Travis Kothenbeutel. In the 2nd period, Granite City gets the lone goal from Christian Mohs with an assist from Aidan Verbeke to pull within one. In the 3rd period Granite City again puts a goal on the board to tie the game at three with a goal from Nick Haase. North Iowa’s Brandon Anderson gets the game-winning goal late in the period with assists from Murphy and Jonasson. The Bulls take game 1 of the series and Chris Amsden gets the win in net. Boxscore

Flint 3 @ Cleveland 2 (Flint wins best of three series, 2-0) - Flint gets the victory to win the series and become the first team to punch their ticket to the Silver Cup. It was a nail bitter of a game with goals going back and forth. Cleveland gets on the board first with a power play goal from Nick Balavich. Avery Huibregtse and Jared Johnson get assists on the play. Flint gets their first goal of the game from Nick Gnagni with Burr and Lainesse getting the assists. Shortly after Cleveland regains the lead with a goal from Mike Palasics. Before the 1st is over Nick Gnagni grabs his second goal of the night to bring things back to even for Flint. In the 2nd period Mark McGee gets the go ahead goal for Flint to go up 3-2 and ultimately the game winner. Austin Fletcher gets the assist on the play. Anders Franke gets the win in net with 32 saves. Boxscore
