Mustangs Ortman makes college commitment

April 16, 2014
The Midland University men's hockey team has announced the addition of Blake Ortman of Dunlap, Ill. Ortman has played the past four seasons in the NA3HL, all for the Mustangs. He also appeared in the 2012 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. Ortman was also recognized this past season as the recipient of the NA3HL Community Service Award.

Head Coach Jason Cirone had high praises about his new signee both on and off the ice. "The signing of Blake is going to solidify our defense," said Cirone. "He is a big strong player that sees the ice well and will be a great leader in the locker room but even more so off of the rink. Blake is the reigning winner of the community service award for the NA3HL, so I know he will be a big part of our community in Fremont."

Last season Ortman played in 44 games, scoring five goals and collecting 24 assists with the Peoria Mustangs out of the North American Tier III Hockey League.

"I really liked the coaching staff here at Midland and the campus made me feel right at home when I visited," said Ortman upon selecting Midland University.

Ortman plans on pursuing a business major and will be a part of the Warriors' class of 2014.
