Saturday Scores: Southern Tier opens with win

Pittsburgh 4 @ Southern Tier 5 – The Southern Tier Xpress started off their new season with a win. In the 1st period, Cody Maulsby and Owen Harris put them on the board first. Pittsburgh countered with goals from Cody Black and Eli Lynn to tie the game at two a piece. In the 2nd, Pittsburgh had the lone goal from Nils Markgren on the power play. Pittsburgh started the 3rd with a goal from Parker Henry to increase their lead. After that it was all the Xpress. Goals from Brandon Desrosiers and Aleksandr Koshelev tied the game back up and headed to overtime. Curtis Carlson gets the game-winning goal in overtime with an assist from Niko Greco. Boxscore

Toledo 2 @ Cincinnati 0 – The Toledo Cherokee get off to a good start to the season with a win in game one of the 2014-15 season. Austin Turner gets the first goal for the Cherokee with an assist from Dominic Pisanti and David Bogart. In the 2nd period the Cherokee get a second goal from Dominic Pisanti. Getting the assists on the play were Kyler Omey and Austin Turner.  There was no scoring in the 3rd. Aaron Callan stopped all 18 shots that came his way for the first shutout of the NA3HL season. Chicago 3 @ Peoria 2 – Chicago gets the win in its first game of the 2014-15 season. In the 1st period, Max Piper gets the Bulldogs on the board first. Niko Moulakelis gets the second goal of the game for Chicago with a power play goal. Henry Hearon got the assist on the play. In the 2nd, Peoria gets on the board with a goal from Austin Wisely on the power play with an assist from Chance Homerin. Chicago adds a 3rd goal before the 2nd is over from Tyler Selteriech. Chance Homerin gets the loan goal in the 3rd for Peoria but it wasn’t enough. Chicago takes the game three to two. Boxscore

Cleveland 0 @ Metro 5 – The Metro Jets had a great start to their season with a five to zero win over Cleveland. In the 1st period, starting the scoring off from the Jets was David Chavis, with assists from Pearce Vance and Jacob Gleason. Alex Holm added on a second goal for the Jets in the closing seconds of the 1st to make the game 2-0. In the 2nd, Ellis Freatman had the lone goal with assists from Swayer and Holm. In the 3rd period, Alex Holm adds another point to the board with an assist from McLean. Zachary Koonce finishes off the scoring for the jets with an unassisted goal. Jake Stephan made 20 saves in the shutout. Boxscore
