Ducks edge Capitals in Thursday night clash

Point Mallard 3 @ Topeka 2 – The Point Mallard Ducks and the Topeka Capitals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Point Mallard made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Chris Lepore at 17:47 of the third period. The Ducks were led by Lepore, who racked up one goal. Point Mallard also got points from Grant Dukus, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Chris Corgan also scored for Point Mallard. More assists for Point Mallard came via Noah Gilreath, who had one and Brad Reitter, who had two. Topeka put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Point Mallard to score on any of its five power plays. The Ducks were unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Capitals were helped by Steve MacIver, who grabbed one goal. MacIver scored on the power play 4:11 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Topeka had gained a power play chance when Justin Dunn was whistled for boarding.
