La Crosse defenseman Olinyk makes NCAA commitment

February 13, 2015
The La Crosse Freeze, proud members of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Blake Olinyk has committed to play NCAA hockey for Bethel University. Bethel is an NCAA Division III school and is a member of the MIAC Conference.

Olinyk, 20, is in his second season playing in the NA3HL and first with the Freeze. The native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, began the season with the Minnesota Flying Aces, but only played two games with the team before being traded to La Crosse.

Olinyk (6’0/190) has thrived with the Freeze this season, recording 14 points in 31 games played. That includes five goals and nine assists.

“As an organization we are extremely excited for Blake.  He will be attending a University that is a good fit for him both educationally and athletically,” said La Crosse Head Coach Ryan Egan. “Blake is an exceptional young man with outstanding character and work ethic.  Bethel will be proud to have him as a student athlete.”

Olinyk played in the NA3HL during the 2013-14 for the Flying Aces where he had two points in 22 games played. Prior to that, Olinyk played high school hockey in Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders.
