Wisconsin forward Henderson signs NAHL tender

June 10, 2015
The Wisconsin Whalers of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Peter Henderson has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Janesville Jets. The Jets competed in the NAHL’s North Division this past season.

Henderson, 20, just completed his first season of junior hockey in the NA3HL. He was named the NA3HL Forward of the Year, as well as, the NA3HL Rookie of the Year. He committed to play NCAA hockey earlier this spring at Nichols College.

Henderson was dominant in the league this season, as he led the NA3HL in points (85), assists (52) and was tied for 2nd in goals with 31. His 85 points were 15 more points than the next closest competitor.

The Libertyville, Illinois native was named NA3HL Forward of the Month in November and he also led the Whalers in playoff scoring this season with seven points in five games. Henderson also recorded two points in two games while playing for the Central Division team at the 2015 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament.

Last season was spent almost entirely playing Midget 18U hockey for the Tier II Northwest Chargers in suburban Chicago.

“Peter was one of our most consistent players all season.  He sees the ice vey well and used his speed and skill to his advantage. He is ready for the next step in his career and we are proud to say that will be in the NCAA,” said Wisconsin Whalers head coach Tom McDermott.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June 9, 2015.
