Wooster defenseman Watts signs NAHL tender

January 11, 2016
The Wooster Oilers, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that defenseman Jason Watts has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Odessa Jackalopes. The Jackalopes compete in the NAHL’s South Division.

Watts, 19, is in his first season playing in the NA3HL, but fourth overall with the Oilers organization. The native of Crestwood, KY, was named the NA3HL’s East Division Star of the Week back on November 3rd as he had four assists in the two games.

In early December, Watts was called up to the NAHL, where he played in three games for the Jackalopes and signed a tender upon his return to Wooster.

Watts (6’1/238) has 16 points (1 goal, 15 assists) and is a +6 in 24 games played with Wooster so far this season.

“Jason has been with Aaron and I since our first season in Wooster. Each year he just keeps getting better not only as a player, but as a human being and closer to achieving his goal of playing in the NAHL and college. He has been our captain since last season. Players know who he is and know they will have to battle to get the best of him. We wish him the best of luck in the NAHL next season,” said Wooster head coach Valentino Hernandez.

Watts is the second NA3HL player this season to sign an NAHL tender.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2016.
