Toledo forward Somers makes college commitment

May 19, 2016
The Toledo Cherokee of the NA3HL are proud to announce that left winger Josh Somers has committed to Eastern Michigan University for the upcoming season. Somers, joins teammates David Bogart and Austin Turner in Ypsilanti this fall. Eastern Michigan is an ACHA Division I program.

The Madison Heights, Michigan native was acquired by Toledo in a trade with the West Michigan Wolves in late October and made an immediate impact on the Cherokee lineup.

Somers suited up in 33 games for Toledo scoring 21 goals and adding 15 assists for 36 points with a +19 rating. Six of his goals came on the power play.

“Eastern Michigan is not only getting a pure goal scorer but an even better person and teammate in Josh, he came in here after we got the season rolling and fit in nicely with our group," said head coach Kenny Miller.

The 21-year-old is the third Cherokee player to commit to the Eastern Michigan program.

“I am happy for Josh and his family, he will be playing close enough that they can continue to watch him play. He is a great kid and he will do very well at the college level," added Miller.
