Long Beach defenseman Hewitt makes NCAA commitment

June 20, 2016
The Long Beach Sharks, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that defenseman Eric Hewitt has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Aurora University for the fall of 2016.

Hewitt completed the 2015-16 season posting 8 goals and 30 assists for 38 points, in 41 regular season games played. He will be joining former teammate and forward Jimmy Warrick who committed to the Spartans earlier this Spring.

"I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach Eric throughout his junior career,” said Head Coach Mike Stanaway. "He has everything a coach could ask for in a player and I couldn't be happier for him as he begins his collegiate career.”

The 20-year-old native from Saginaw, Michigan, led his team in scoring for all defensemen this past season. He was also selected to and played on the 2015 NA3EHL West Division prospects team that competed at the 2015 NA3HL Showcase this past December. Hewitt (5’9/161) had six points in three games at the event.

The steady defenseman was known for his quiet leadership and physical play throughout his career. "I don't think I've ever seen a defenseman hit quite like Eric,” said Sharks owner Jim Loughran. "He is a true competitor that does not take kindly to losing and it showed with the way he played the game,” added Loughran.

Hewitt is the 5th player from this past year’s Long Beach (NY Aviators) team who has made an NCAA commitment.
