Euless forward Rooney signs NAHL tender
December 12, 2016
The Euless Jr. Stars, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that forward Trey Rooney has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Janesville Jets, who compete in the NAHL’s Midwest Division.
Rooney, 18, is in his first full season of playing junior hockey after playing Minnesota High School hockey the last four years.
The last two years were spent playing for Armstrong/Cooper High, where he was a prolific scorer. Upon the end of the season, the Robbinsdale, Minnesota native made his NAHL debut with the Minnesota Magicians where he played in five games.
This season with Euless in the NA3HL, Rooney (5’9/170) has 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists), which ranks 4th on the team in scoring.
"Our staff is very excited for Trey being tendered by one of the top NAHL teams in country. His goal is to play division I hockey and will now be closer to his goal. Trey comes to the rink everyday and puts in the hard work. He plays the right way and definitely has a nich for the net. As a leader on the ice he is putting up big numbers and coming through in clutch situations. We look forward to Trey being a big part of our teams' success the remainder of the season with hopes of reaching the Silver Cup," said Euless head coach Don Babineau.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 2, 2017.
