Texas wins goaltending duel on Monday

January 17, 2017
Texas 1 @ Louisiana 0 (OT) – In one of the better goaltending duels the NA3HL has seen all season long, the Texas Jr. Brahmas extended their winning streak to three straight games thanks to a 1-0 overtime win in Louisiana, which completed a three-game weekend road sweep of the Drillers.

The win moved Texas to within a point of 1st place in the South Division.

The game was all about the goaltending of Texas backstopper Tyler Myers and Drillers goalie Santeri Seppinen, who kept things scoreless throughout the three periods of regulation.

Myers, who posted his 4th shutout of the season, made 7 saves in the 1st period, 10 saves in the 2nd period, 8 saves in the 3rd period and 4 saves in overtime. Seppinen was even busier, making 9 saves in the 1st period, 7 saves in the 2nd period, 17 saves in the 3rd period and 3 saves in overtime.

The lone goal to sneak through came with under two minutes left in the 3-on-3 overtime. Both teams had numerous odd-man chances in the extra frame, but Texas found the game-winner as a pass led to a breakaway by Hunter Bersani, who put a move on Seppinen to dish the puck to a wide open Jacob Peterson, who beat the defense down the ice and deposited the game-winner into the open net.

Myers made 28 saves in the shutout win, while Seppinen made 36 saves in the OT loss.
