Breezy Point forward Maucieri signs NAHL tender

April 21, 2017
The Breezy Point North Stars of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Josh Maucieri has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Austin Bruins. The Bruins compete in the NAHL’s Central Division.

Maucieri, 18, played in 19 regular season games and two play-off games, for the North Stars. During that time, the 6’0/170 lbs. native of Crosby, Minnesota, had 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists).

Maucieri played a split season for the North Stars, while finishing up his high school career, playing for the Northern Lakes Lightning.  He was a senior captain and a 4-year Varsity player, for Lightning head coach Craig Larson, who also serves as North Stars GM.

“This was a pretty big year for Josh”, said Larson.  “He has a been a very driven and motivated player, for the last 4 years and this was something he had dedicated himself to achieving.”  “He did some of the right things at the right times, while playing at this level and was one of the top 5 scorers, in MN High School, this year.” “I’d say he’s ready for the next step,” Larson added.

The 3 time All Conference and All Section player, Maucieri finished an impressive high school senior season, by scoring 35 goals and 37 assists for 72 Points, ranking him fourth in the state.  He was also selected to play in the CCM High Performance Great 8 tournament, in late March.

“Josh really had a good start, when he played in the fall, for the North Stars," said Stars’ head coach Jon Jonasson.  “Then after his solid high school season he came back in and played even better. He opened some eyes at the right time, during high school and did it again, while playing the junior game," Jonasson added.

“Playing for the North Stars, before and after my season year, was an amazing experience. It was great to have had this opportunity, to play junior hockey in front of my hometown crowd and for coach Jon Jonasson,” said Maucieri. “I want to thank both North Stars’ coach Jonasson and Craig Larson, my HS coach, for helping me prepare for the next level," continued Maucieri.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 6, 2017.
