Long Beach names Deschamps as new GM

September 7, 2017
The Long Beach Sharks (NA3HL) Junior Hockey team announced today that an agreement has been reached with Bernard “Buzz” Deschamps to join the organization as the Club’s General Manager.

“Buzz is a great acquisition and a huge asset to our program,” said team President and Director of Hockey Operations, George Chalos.

“I am very excited about my new role with the Sharks,” said Deschamps. “I’m very grateful for
the opportunity and look forward to helping build a winning team in Long Beach for many years to come. We have a great nucleus of young, talented players in our organization and a first-class coaching staff who will help them go far in their hockey careers. The Sharks have an extremely bright future ahead.”

Born in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Buzz Deschamps was drafted by the New York Rangers in 1955 and spent more than a decade playing professional hockey across the United States and Canada. Buzz was well known both on and off the ice with teams like the Sudbury Wolves, Indianapolis Chiefs, Long Island Ducks, Baltimore Clippers, St . Paul Rangers and the Providence Reds.

Buzz holds the single season scoring record of 59 goals with the Long Island Ducks of the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). Deschamps finished his playing career with the Los Angeles Blades and chose retirement after being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1968 NHL expansion draft. He is a member of several sports Halls of Fames, including the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, and the Midland Sports Hall of Fame and the Penetanguishene (Ontario) Sports Hall of Fame.

Buzz previously served as a scout for the Calgary Flames and the New York Rangers. Collegiately, he coached St John’s University (NCAA-Div III) and Stony Brook University (ACHA-Div I). He continues to give back to the hockey community through his work with various youth hockey organizations in the New York area.
