NA3HL announces Bauer Divisional Stars of the Week

Honors go to Mitch Dolter (North Iowa), C.J. Smith (Long Beach), Mathieu LaForest (Metro), Nick Battaglia (Helena), Brandon Rozema (Evansville), Nick Anastasia (Jersey Shore), Cameron Bickford (Texas), and Braden Shea (Willmar).

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending September 17, 2017. The divisional stars of the week is an award given each week of the regular season to the top performing players in each of the eight divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Mitch Dolter, forward, North Iowa Bulls

North Iowa forward Mitch Dolter, 20, had six points (4 goals, 2 assists) as the Bulls opened their season with a weekend road sweep in Wisconsin against the Whalers.  On Friday, the 6’1/200 lbs. native of Fairbault, MN, had 3 goals and 2 assists in a 9-2 win and on Saturday, he added another goal in a 4-3 win.

2nd Star: Jacob Silverstein, G, La Crosse Freeze

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Matthew Francois, F, La Crosse Freeze – Luke Hefty, D, Wisconsin Whalers – Ryan Kranz, D, North Iowa Bulls – Nick Rogers, F, Wisconsin Whalers

 

Coastal Division Star of the Week: C.J. Smith, forward, Long Beach Sharks

Long Beach Sharks forward C.J. Smith, 19, had six points (4 goals, 2 assists) in two wins as the Sharks defeated the Maine Wild on the road this past weekend in a two-game series. The 5’8/170 lbs. native of Hanover, MN, had two goals, including the overtime-winner in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win and on Sunday, he scored two more goals in a 5-4 shootout win.

2nd Star: Tyson Gudaitis, F, New England Stars

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Cole Archambeault, F, New England Stars – Matt Hammel, F, Northeast Generals – Bransen Mackey, F, Northeast Generals

 

East Division Star of the Week: Mathieu LaForest, forward, Metro Jets

Metro Jets forward Mathieu LaForest, 20, went off this past weekend for seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in a two-game weekend home sweep of the Dayton Falcons. On Saturday, the 5’9/170 lbs. native of St. Clair Shores, MI, had two goals and three assists in a 10-0 shutout win and on Sunday, he chimed in with another goal and an assist in a 7-3 win.

Frontier Division Star of the Week: Nick Battaglia, goaltender, Helena Bighorns

Helena Bighorns goalie Nick Battaglia, 18, had an impressive weekend as the Bighorns opened their 2017-18 season with a weekend home sweep of the Gillette Wild. On Friday night, the 5’10/175 lbs. native of Staten Island, NY, made 33 saves in a 6-3 win and on Saturday he made 47 saves in a 2-1 win. For the weekend, he stopped a total of 80 of 84 shots for a 95.2% save percentage.

2nd Star: Hayden Seitz, F, Helena Bighorns

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Brandon Rozema, forward, Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts

Veteran Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts forward Brandon Rozema, 20, had a huge weekend to help the ‘Bolts open up their 2017-18 season with a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Point Mallard Ducks. The 5’7/170 lbs. native of Grandville, MI, started his weekend with a goal and two assists in a 4-3 home win on Friday, and followed it up with a two-assist effort on Saturday in a 4-2 road win. For the weekend, Rozema led the team with 5 points.

2nd Star: Jaden Gardner, G, Peoria Mustangs

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Bryson Linenburg, G, Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts – Ian McHenry, F, Peoria Mustangs

 

Northeast Division Star of the Week: Nick Anastasia, goaltender, Jersey Shore Wildcats

Jersey Shore Wildcats goalie Nick Anastasia, 20, helped his club to a weekend road sweep of the Niagara Falls PowerHawks this past weekend by stopping 70 of a possible 73 shots. On Saturday, the 5’11/225 lbs. native of Philadelphia, PA, made 38 saves in a 5-3 win and on Sunday, he stopped all 32 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win.

2nd Star: Eddie Cannon, F, Oswego Stampede

South Division Star of the Week: Cameron Bickford, defenseman, Texas Brahmas

The Texas Brahmas opened up their 2017-18 season with a weekend home split with cross-town rival, the Mid-Cities Jr. Stars, thanks in large part to their defenseman Cameron Bickford (6’1/160). The 18-year-old native of Mansfield, TX, began his junior career with a three-point weekend. That included an assist on the Brahmas lone goal in a 2-1 loss on Saturday and a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win on Sunday.

West Division Star of the Week: Braden Shea, forward, Willmar WarHawks

In their lone game of the weekend, the Willmar WarHawks opened with a 4-3 road win at Breezy Point on Saturday night. 19-year-old forward Braden Shea was the star of the game as the 6’0/180 lbs. native of East Grand Forks, MN, led the way with three assists on the night, which included three goals in the 3rd period.

2nd Star: Brady Meyers, G, Alexandria Blizzard
