NA3HL announces Bauer Divisional Stars of the Week

FRISCO, TEXAS – The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending November 12, 2017. The divisional stars of the week is an award given each week of the regular season to the top performing players in each of the eight divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Carter Grobstick, Forward, Wisconsin Whalers

The Wisconsin Whalers are red hot as they swept the Peoria Mustangs to up their winning streak to four. Carter Grobstick was a major catalyst for the offense as he had four points this past weekend. The Dubuque, Iowa native scored a goal and an assist in each of his two games this past week. The 19-year old now has 10 goals and 13 assists in 17 games this season.

2nd Star: Clayton Lackey, F, La Crosse Freeze

Coastal Division Star of the Week: Austin Braley, Forward, Northeast Generals

Make it back-to-back star of the week selections for Austin Braley of the Northeast Generals. The forward from Bourne, Massachusetts continued torching his opponents as he registered eight points in three games. Braley has now scored in seven straight games and has recorded at least three points in five out of his last seven games. Braley’s best game came on Saturday as he scored a hat trick against the Long Beach Sharks, scoring a power play and shorthanded goal in the process.

2nd Star: Jayce Dorman, F, Maine Wild

East Division Star of the Week: Jeremy Schwartz, Forward, Metro Jets

The rookies for the Metro Jets continued to produce for the East Division’s top team, this time it was Jeremy Schwartz taking home Star of the Week honors. On Friday in Toledo, Schwartz scored twice, including the game winner, and assisted on another goal in the Jets 7-4 win. He would finish the weekend with four points and a plus-6 rating.

Frontier Division Star of the Week: Brooks Mitzel, Forward, Gillette Wild

The leading scorer for the Gillette Wild had himself another good weekend as they swept the Bozeman Icedogs. On Friday, the 20-year old notched an assist in a 4-0 victory with a plus-1 rating. On Saturday, Mitzel really shined as he had a hat trick and another assist in another win. The Rapid City, South Dakota native finished the weekend with a plus-4 rating.

2nd Star: Jake Ford, F, Yellowstone Quake

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Nick Noel, D, Helena Bighorns – Dan Rieger, D, Helena Bighorns – Derek Scoggins, D, Gillette Wild

 

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Ryan Hempel, Forward, St. Louis Jr. Blues

For the first time in over a year, St. Louis Jr. Blues forward Ryan Hempel took the ice with his teammates. Hempel was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and hasn’t been able to play since early last season. After beating the disease, Hempel returned to practice in St. Louis and made his season debut on Sunday. The native of Katy, Texas recorded two assists and finished with a plus-2 rating. “For him to come back after his diagnosis and treatment shows an incredible amount of strength and determination, and we’re proud he’s back with the Jr. Blues,” said St. Louis head coach Chris Flaugher.

Northeast Division Star of the Week: Andrew Logar, Forward, Niagara Falls PowerHawks

The Niagara Falls PowerHawks have had plenty of time to rest as they had not played a game since October 15th. No one was more excited to get on the ice than Andrew Logar. On Saturday, Logan scored three times and had three assists in a 7-3 victory over the Skylands Kings. On Sunday, Logar found the back of the net four more time in another PowerHawks win. For the weekend, the Niagara Falls native had 11 points and a plus-10 rating.

2nd Star: Steven Kozikoski, G, Oswego Stampede

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Ryan Gunther, F, Oswego Stampede – Justin King, D, Niagara Falls PowerHawks – Geoffrey Lamorre, D, Binghamton Jr. Senators – Michael Padgeon, F, Binghamton

 

South Division Star of the Week: Brandon Speights, Forward, Mid Cities Jr. Stars

The former NAPHL all star returned to all-star form this past weekend as notched nine points in three games. On Friday, he scored once and had one assist. On Saturday, he scored and assisted once again. For his finale on Sunday, Speights scored his first NA3HL hat trick and had another assist. The native of Dallas, Texas finished with a plus-7 rating.

2nd Star: Matt Hutton, F, Mid Cities Jr. Stars

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Dillon Steh, F, Atlanta Capitals - Kyle Konin, G, Atlanta Capitals

 

West Division Star of the Week: Steven Mordini, Defenseman, New Ulm Steel

The 19-year old from Baraboo, Wisconsin had his best games of the season this past weekend. On Friday against Rochester, Mordini scored his first goal of the year, the game winner, to go with three assists in a Steel victory. He followed up that effort with two more assists in another New Ulm win on Sunday. Mordini now has a goal and seven assists in 12 games this season.
