Granite City, Alexandria post convincing wins on Wednesday

Granite City 5 @ Willmar 0 – Goalie Ridge Gerads stopped all 17 shots that came his way for his third shutout of the season as the Lumberjacks closed in on the top spot in the West Division with a 5-0 shutout win in Willmar on Wednesday night. Lumberjacks forward Braden Altena scored twice, which included the game’s first two goals in the 1st period. Grant Troumbly also scored in the 1st period to put the Lumberjacks ahead 3-0 after one period. Jordan Olson added a power play goal in the 2nd period to make it 4-0 and Owen Sikich scored on the power play in the 3rd period to make the final score 5-0. WarHawks goalie Luke Fry made 38 saves in the loss.
Breezy Point 2 @ Alexandria 9 – Josiah Roen had a hat-trick and Brett Meister also had a three-point night as the Blizzard stormed the North Stars on Wednesday, 9-2. The Blizzard scored four goals in the 1st period and never looked back, which included tallies from Roen, Jake Hermann, Alec Skar and Brenden Payne. Meister then got in on the action scoring in the 2nd period and adding another early in the 3rd period to make it a 6-0 game. Roen then added back-to-back goals later in the 3rd period to complete his hat-trick and make it 8-0. The North Stars picked up two late goals in the 3rd period from Jack Petroske and Alex Flicek, while the Blizzard got their last goal from Riley Scanlon. Brady Meyers made 23 saves in the win, while Lucas Ehrlich was saddled with the loss, making 6 saves. Michah Hershey made 30 saves in relief.
