Niagara Falls defenseman Schweickert gets call to NAHL
February 5, 2018
The Niagara Falls PowerHawks of the NA3HL are pleased to announce defenseman Brandon Schweickert was called up to the North American Hockey League’s Minnesota Wilderness this past weekend.
Schweickert, 19, has had a very good season this far for Niagara Falls. The 6’0/185 lbs. native of Hamburg, New York, has recorded 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) in 32 games played.
He played last season in the NA3HL as well for the Lockport Express, recording 29 points in 47 games.
“Brandon came to us last season as a forward from St. Francis Prep and had a pretty solid year. He had played some defense in the past and we worked him out there in camp and he has really anchored our defense all year. He is strong defensively and, as you can see from his numbers, also adds offense from the back end. He really committed himself to getting in great shape in the offseason and all of this season and it shows, as he routinely plays close to 30 minutes a night. We appreciate Tim Madsen, Mike Benedict and the Wilderness giving Brandon the opportunity and we are confident he will make the most of it. We wish him the best,” said PowerHawks General Manager Frank Vecchio.
