Day 1 of NA3HL Top Prospects full of action and scouts

Jimmy McDermott and the NA3HL 18U Selects White team were the only team to win both their games during Day 1 of the NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament.

Over 200 college and junior scouts were on hand on Tuesday to take in some NA3HL Top Prospects action, as all teams played twice during the opening day of the event at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.
 
The NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament is being played in conjunction with the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament and the event has quickly become one of the most highly-scouted events of its kind.

18U Selects Red 3 vs. Grey 2-After a slow start, the 18U Selects Red grabbed an early lead to defeat Grey, 3-2. Blake Finley (Peoria Mustangs), Matthew Minichiello (Niagara Falls PowerHawks), and Matt Schaumburger (Metro Jets) scored for the Selects, while Misha Akatnov (Missoula Junior Bruins) and Riley Buller (Yellowstone Quake) each notched one for Grey. Red goaltenders Brady Anderson (Binghamton Junior Senators) and Sean Finstrom (Lansing Wolves) made 21 and 13 saves each, while Drew Scites (Great Falls Americans) and Luke Fry (Willmar WarHawks) stopped 5 and 12 shots each for Grey. 
 
Orange 7 vs. Green 0-Orange goaltenders Blake Bjella (St Louis Jr Blues) and Tyler Hawk (Pittsburgh Vengeance) made 6 and 8 saves each to secure a 7-0 shutout win over Green. Robby Flannery (Metro Jets), Brandon Rozema (Evansville Jr Thunderbolts), Connor Inger (Metro Jets), Tristin Snyder (2, Toledo Cherokee), Dominick Glavach (Pittsburgh Vengeance), and Jacob Boje (Bozeman Icedogs) scored for Orange. Green goaltenders Carson Murison (Texas Brahmas) and Steven Kozikoski (Oswego Stampede) made 10 and 15 saves. 
 
18U Selects White 5 vs. Blue 3-The 18U Selects White scored twice in the third to defeat Blue, 5-3. Thad Marcola (Northeast Generals), Jimmy McDermott (Wisconsin Whalers), Sam Sykes (Texas Brahmas), Nick Ventura (L/A Nordiques), and Cameron Fagerlee (North Iowa Bulls) scored for White, while Clayton Lackey (La Crosse Freeze), Jake Joyeaux (North Iowa Bulls), and Marc Faia (Northeast Generals) found the back of the net for Blue. Selects goaltenders Ryan Kenny (New Ulm Steel) and Reid Waszczenko (Yellowstone Quake) made 5 and 15 saves, while Greg Moon (New England Stars) and Colin Cain (North Iowa Bulls) stopped 14 and 9 shots each for Blue. 
 
Grey 2 vs. Green 3-Green grabbed an early lead on their way to a 3-2 win over Grey. For Green, Cameron Bickford (Texas Brahmas), Craig Garrigan (Skylands Kings), and Jason Ladzinski (Atlanta Capitals) found the back of the net, while Ryan Smith (Granite City Lumberjacks) notched both goals for Grey. Green's Steven Kozikoski (Oswego Stampede) and Carson Murison (Texas Brahmas) made 14 and 10 saves each, while Luke Fry (Willmar WarHawks) and Drew Scites (Great Falls Americans) stopped 14 and 13 shots each for Grey. 
 
18U Selects White 4 vs. Orange 1-After a scoreless first period, the Selects Whites scored two quick goals to set the pace for a 4-1 win over Orange. Michal Lempiainen (New England Stars), Eric Vanderhoff (Skylands Kings), Zach Smith (Louisiana Drillers), and Nick Ventura (L/A Nordiques) scored for Whites, while Turner Banyasz  (Wooster Oilers) notched one for Orange. In net, Selects goaltenders Reid Waszczenko (Yellowstone Quake) and Ryan Kenny (New Ulm Steel) stopped 20 and 13 shots each, while Tyler Hawk (Pittsburgh Vengeance) and Blake Bjella (St Louis Jr Blues) made 6 and 8 saves, respectively, for Orange. 
 
18U Selects Red 1 vs. Blue 4-Blue grabbed an early two goal lead on their way to defeat the 18U Selects Red, 4-1. Sam Hanson (Wisconsin Whalers), Marc Faia (Northeast Generals), Clayton Lackey (La Crosse Freeze), and Leevi Kervinen (Cape Cod Islanders) scored for Blue, while Ian Doner (Yellowstone Quake) notched one for Red. In net, Colin Cain (North Iowa Bulls) and Greg Moon (New England Stars) made 16 and 11 saves, respectively, for Blue, while Sean Finstrom (Lansing Wolves) and Brady Anderson (Binghamton Junior Senators) made 10 and 12 saves each for Red.
