Saturday Sweeps sets Fraser Cup Championship field

Thanks to six series sweeps on Saturday and two teams clinching earlier in the week, the field of 8 for the 2018 NA3HL Fraser Cup Championship is set!

Here is a look at the seedings, pools and schedule for the event. Seeding was based on the 2017-18 NA3HL regular season standings point totals.

The 2018 NA3HL Fraser Cup will take place at Canlan Ice Sports in Romeoville, Illinois from March 27-31.

Northeast Division Finals, Game 2: Binghamton Junior Senators 3 @ Niagara Falls PowerHawks (Binghamton wins series 2-0) - A pair of third period goals in the third period secured a 3-2 win, and a trip to the Fraser Cup Championship, for the Binghamton Junior Senators over the Niagara Falls PowerHawks. Rory Gresham, Dominik Bogdziul, and Benjamin Beversdorf notched goals for the Junior Senators, with assists coming from Gregory Simmons and Ryan Reifler. Nathan Walerowicz and Andrew Logar scored for the PowerHawks off passes from Stephen Minichiello (2), Kurt Villani, and George French. Binghamton's Colin Burgess made 17 saves, while Kris Augustine stopped 21 shots for Niagara Falls. 
 
Midwest Division Finals, Game 2: St Louis Jr Blues 11 @ Peoria Mustangs 5 (St Louis wins series 2-0) - A strong second period for the St Louis Jr Blues powered them to an 11-5 win over the Peoria Mustangs. John Shively, Jake Cox (2), Bud Winter (2), Will Baginski (2), Dante Jones, Jack Hatton (2), and Cameron McAtee scored for the Jr Blues off passes from Winter, Ivan Galaguzov (2), Tom Yurisich, McAtee (2), Cox, Joe Papa, and Shively. For Peoria, Braden Stewart, Austin Keil, Jack Radley (2), and Bret Bauer got on the scoreboard, while Blake Finley, Radley, Stephen Zowin, and Keil recorded assists. In net, Hunter Smith made 13 saves for St Louis, while Jaden Gardner and Zack Freiburger stopped 29 and 7 shots, respectively, for the Mustangs. 
 
East Division Finals, Game 2: Pittsburgh Vengeance 0 @ Metro Jets 2 (Metro wins series 2-0) - A 27 save shutout for Brian Tallieu pushed the Metro Jets to a 2-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Vengeance in the East Division finals. Connor Inger scored both goals for the Jets, and Trevor Momot and George Hansen recorded assists. Joel De Simone recorded 37 saves in net for the Vengeance. 
 
Central Division Finals, Game 2: North Iowa Bulls 3 @ La Crosse Freeze 4 (OT) (La Crosse wins series 2-0) - Matthew Francois scored early through the overtime period off a pass from Keaton Caplis to earn the 4-3 OT win - and trip to the Fraser Cup Championship - over the North Iowa Bulls. Clayton Lackey (2) and Brandon Ratzloff scored in regulation for the Freeze, with assists from Toon De Schepper (2), Francois, Alec Seeger, and Caplis. Tyler Bump, Mitch Dolter, and Shane Bernhardson scored for the Bulls, and Cameron Fagerlee, John Studioso, Lucas McKinnon, Josh Arnold, and Bump recorded assists. La Crosse's Will Graves stopped 37 shots, while Colin Cain made 45 saves for North Iowa. 
 
West Division Finals, Game 2: Granite City Lumberjacks 2 @ New Ulm Steel 1 (Granite City wins series 2-0) - The Granite City Lumberjacks grabbed an early lead on their way to a 2-1 win over the New Ulm Steel, securing their trip to Chicago for the Fraser Cup Championship. Hunter Schwehr and Brady Dahl scored for the Lumberjacks, and Chase DiBari recorded an assist. For the Steel, Luc Krueser scored off a pass from Austin Langworthy. Granite City's David Mulligan made 15 saves, while Ryan Kenny stopped 22 shots for New Ulm. 
 
Frontier Division Finals, Game 2: Yellowstone Quake 0 @ Helena Bighorns 0 (Yellowstone wins series 2-0) - A lone goal decided the game. Jack Moore of the Yellowstone Quake scored off passes from Jake Ford and Ty Proffitt at 12:09 of the third to come out on top, 1-0, over the Helena Bighorns to take the final spot in the Fraser Cup Championship. Reid Waszczenko made 28 saves for the shutout, while Nick Battaglia stopped 26 shots for Helena.
