St. Louis forward Winter signs NAHL tender agreement

April 3, 2018
The St. Louis Jr. Blues of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Bud Winter has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the NAHL’s South Division.

Winter, 19, has also been added to the IceRays roster for their final regular-season series this weekend against Lone Star and for the upcoming Robertson Cup Playoffs. Corpus Christi will be the #4 seed in the South and will take on the #1-seeded Shreveport Mudbugs in the South Division Semi-Finals.

A 6’2/209 lbs. native of Sunset Hills, Missouri, Winter began the 2017-18 season in the NAHL with Corpus Christi. He returned back home to St. Louis and made the most of his tenure with the Jr. Blues. In 11 regular-season games, Winter potted 12 goals and added five assists for 17 points.

It was in the Fraser Cup Playoffs however where he made his biggest impact. He recorded three points (2 G, 1 A) in the Midwest Division finals against Peoria, and at the Fraser Cup he scored three goals and two assists, including a goal in the final against the Metro Jets. Winter was named to the Fraser Cup All-Tournament Team.

“When Bud joined our team he made an instant impact,” said Jr. Blues head coach Chris Flaugher. “He provided a ton of added size and speed, is a great offensive player as his numbers show, and was a rock-steady presence in the dressing room. We’re pleased to see him sign a tender at Corpus, and hope he can continue his great playoff form for the IceRays.”

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
