The Yellowstone Quake of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that Top Prospects defenseman Mason Stewart has committed to play college hockey for Aquinas College, a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) in the NAIA.
A talented offensive player at the blue-line, Stewart set a single-season record for points by a defenseman at the Tier III junior level with 79. In 47 games this season, Stewart scored 13 goals and added 66 assists. His 66 assists was the second-highest total by a defenseman in Tier III history.
Stewart was also selected to and played in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the Grey team.
His points total put him in the top-25 in all of Tier 3 hockey, a level with over 3000 skaters. The 5'10/170 lbs. Stewart scored 25 goals and dished out 112 assists in 162 career games for the Quake.
"I am really excited for Mason to move forward to pursue college hockey and get his degree after a great junior career. I had the pleasure to coach Mason for the last three years and couldn't be more proud of his accomplishments throughout. He is a true leader on and off the ice and couldn't thank him enough for the time and effort he has put into our success in my three years with the Quake. I am looking forward to him continuing his success going forward,” said former Quake head coach Ryan Theros.
"I'm most excited about the pursuit of a national championship every season and being able to study my unique field (Sustainability) in which not many schools have. I'm looking forward to my development on the ice as well as a student at Aquinas," said Stewart.
He will study Sustainable Business at Aquinas College.
