Friday Finals: Grizzlies, Bighorns continue winning streaks

Luc Cross had two goals and an assist to help the Helena Bighorns stay undefeated with a 5-2 win in Great Falls on Friday.

New Ulm Steel 4 @ Rochester Grizzlies 6 - A strong first period was the key Friday night for the Grizzlies in their 6-4 win over the Steel. The Grizzlies scored 4 goals in the opening frame and were able to hang on the rest of the way with the help of goaltender Nick Bucklin who made 24 saves in the win. Joey Fodstad recorded his first hat-trick of the season scoring the Grizzlies first two goals of the game. Vladislv Sorokin scored two goals and dished out an assist. James Spaargaren scored two goals for the Steel in the loss. The Grizzlies outshot the Steel 45-28.
 
Northeast Generals 10 @ Cape Cod Islanders 5 - With the big effort from Kolye Bankauskas, the Northeast Generals took care of the Cape Cod Islanders Friday night 10-5. Bankauskas recorded his first hat-trick of the season scoring three goals and an assist. Tyler Rudek and Marc Faia each had five-point nights scoring two goals and dishing out three assists. Nick Ferrucci and Michael Goroshko each had two goals for the Islanders in the loss. The Generals outshot the Islanders 51-29. 
 
Helena Bighorns 5 @ Great Falls Americans 2 - A dominant third period was the key Friday night for the Bighorns in their 5-2 win over the Americans. trailing 2-1 heading into the third period, the Bighorns scored four unanswered goals in the final frame. Luc Cross led the way for the Bighorns scoring two goals and dishing out an assist. Michail Gavrilenko presence was vital as well scoring a goal and an assist. Carver Thompson recorded his 2nd win of the season making 32 saves. Payton McSharry scored both goals for the Americans in the loss. Americans Goaltender Viktor Wennberg has nothing to be ashamed of making 47 saves.
 
Texas Brahmas 5 @ College Station Spirit 0 - Goaltender Thomas Held was the star Friday night for the Brahmas stopping all 23 shots he faced in the Brahmas 5-0 win over the Spirit. It was Held’s first shutout of the season and third overall win. Tyler Blanchard was the workhorse for the Brahmas scoring two goals and dishing out an assist. Kellen Ireland, Parker Mara, Michael Redmon, and Stuart Pearson all had two-point nights in the win. Chase Allen made 47 saves for the Spirit in the loss.
 
Binghamton Junior Senators 3 @ Oswego Stampede 2 (OT) - It took overtime to decide an exciting game Friday night between the Senators and the Stampede. 2:52 into overtime, Zach Bell scored his third goal of the game and 17th of the season to clich the victory for the Senators. Goaltender Jeff Zero remained perfect on the season winning his 6th game. He made 20 saves in the win. Dylan Gulick and Wade Moak scored the goals for the Stampede. Collin Burgess made 55 saves in the loss.
 
Willmar WarHawks 0 @ Alexandria Blizzard 6 - Kyle Hayden recorded his first shutout of the season Friday night in the Blizzard’s 6-0 win over the WarHawks. Hayden didn’t see much action but none the less stopped all 15 shots that came his way. It was a total team effort for the Blizzard having six different players score goals.  Tanner Frerichs, Dylan Mattson and Riley Scanlon led the way with a goal and an assist. Lucas Ehrlich made 26 saves for the WarHawks in the loss.
 
St. Louis Jr. Blues 5 @ Peoria Mustangs 4 (OT) - It was a thrilling back and worth contest Friday night between the Blues and the Mustangs that saw the road team prevail 5-4 in overtime. 3:27 into overtime, Hunter Muzzillo ended it for the Blues with his 2nd goal of the game. Dante Jones and Matthew Monreal each had two-point nights of their own. The Mustangs jumped out to the quick start leading the game 2-0 but were not able to hang on. Blake Finley led the way for the Mustangs scoring a goal and handing out two assists in the loss. 
 
Breezy Point North Stars 4 @ North Iowa Bulls 6 - The North Iowa Bulls sent their fans home happy Friday night defeating the Breezy Point North Stars 6-4.  It was a back and forth contest the whole way until Matt Rozman scored his 2nd goal of the season early in the third period and gave the Bulls their first two goal lead. Brendan Studioso led the way for the Bulls scoring a goal and dishing out two assists. Connor Poczos made 21 saves recording his third win of the season. Carson Simon scored two goals and an assist for the North Stars. 
 
Maine Wild 2 @ Long Beach Sharks 3 - The Sharks prevailed over the Wild Friday night in a close, low scoring contest. Ryan Cortez was excellent in net for the Sharks making 31 saves and recording his third win of the season. Dixson Root scored the game winner for the Sharks late in the third period recording his 3rd goal of the season. Dino Mukovoz and Cade Lambdin led the way with a goal and assist each. Jason Cote and Luke Church scored the goals for the Wild in the loss. The Sharks outshot the Wild 38-33.
 
Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts 2 @ Wausau RiverWolves 12 - The RiverWolves routed the Thunderbolts 12-2 Friday night winning their 2nd game of the season. Cale Bowman led the way for the RiverWolves recording his first hat-trick of the season. Rollie Carlson was the playmaker dishing out five assists and scoring a goal as well. Vincent Palade and Santana Pinkert each had four-point nights handing out three assists each. Alexander Gilev made 20 saves in the win. James Pawklicki and Benjamin Cope scored the goals for the Thunderbolts. Tyler Dorion made 62 saves in the loss.
 
Skylands Kings 11 @ Niagara Falls PowerHawks 1 - It was a dominant win for the Kings Friday night in their 11-1 victory over the PowerHawks. The Kings jumped on the PowerHawks right out of the gate scoring four unanswered goals in the opening frame. Zach Burkhart, Dylan Saccone, and Zakary Sparks all had two goals in the win. Steven Ford led the way in the point department dishing out four assists and scoring a goal as well. Tom Fomabia made 13 saves winning his 2nd game of the season. Dominic Cappella scored the lone goal for the PowerHawks in the loss. 
 
Wisconsin Whalers 1 @ Granite City Lumberjacks 17 - It was a long night for the Whalers Friday night losing 17-1 to the Lumberjacks. The Whalers were able to keep it close early, but the Lumberjacks broke it open in the 2nd period scoring seven goals. Bailey Sommers, Grant Troumbly and Ryan Pogue all had hat-tricks in the rout. Brand Amundson and Jordan Drobinski pitched in two goals each as well. Michael Janke didn’t see much action making 13 saves for his 2nd win of the season. Anthony Fortin scored the lone goal for the Whalers. Kai Tomita recorded 33 saves in the loss.
 
Butte Cobras 0 @ Bozeman Icedogs 5 - The Icedogs shutout the Cobras in their 5-0 win on Friday night. Dominic Canic, Connor Fuchs, and Hazen McKay all had three-point nights in the win. Gage Blatter led the way in the scoring department recording two goals. Goaltender Mikael Levokari made 22 saves earning his 2nd win of the season and first shutout. Sean Leonard was phenomenal for the Cobras making 69 saves in the loss. The Icedogs heavily outshot the Cobras 74-22 in their dominant victory. 
 
Gillette Wild 6 @ Yellowstone Quake 2 - The Gillette Wild dominated Friday night in their 6-2 win over the Yellowstone Quake. The Wild had six different players record goals in their total team effort victory. Zach VanCompernolle, George Stilson, Austin Newson, Gage Thompson, Parker Delong and Coleman Varty all led the way for the Wild with two-point nights. Cody Grogan made 24 saves in the win. Sandis Cook and Dylan Rumpke scored the goals for the Quake. Michael Allman made 44 saves for the Quake in the loss.
