NA3HL skates to 1-1-1 mark on Day 1 of Nationals

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) finished the first day of the USA Hockey Tier III Junior A National Tournament, which is being held from April 1-5 in Rochester, Minn., with a 1-1-1 record.

In the NA3HL's win, the defending national champion St. Louis Jr. Blues blitzed the Minnesota Junior Hockey League's Hudson Crusaders, 10-2. Forward Jamie DeMarco unleashed for four goals and two assists in the victory, and forward Cooper Mitchell recorded a hat trick. In goal for the Jr. Blues, Mitchell Fernsler made 39 saves.

The Hurster Cup champion Chicago Hitmen skated to a 2-2 tie with the Atlantic Junior Hockey League's (AJHL) Northern Cyclones. Forward Oleg Popov and defenseman Ryan O'Connell struck for the Hitmen goals, and netminder Nicholas Kohn turned aside 33 shots.

The Queen City Steam fell to the AJHL's Walpole Express, 4-1. Forward Alexander Dobrzeniecki connected for the lone Steam marker, and goaltender Thomas Courtney made 21 saves.
