National tournament comes to a close for NA3HL

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) finished the third and final day of the three-game preliminary portion of the USA Hockey Tier III Junior A National Tournament, which is being held from April 1-5 in Rochester, Minn., with an 0-3 record.

Overall, the NA3HL skated to a 2-5-2 record at the tournament.

The defending national champion St. Louis Jr. Blues (2-1) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Western States Hockey League's (WSHL) Idaho Jr. Steelheads. Forward Nathan Kohlenhoefer scored the Jr. Blues' lone marker, and goaltender Mitchell Fernsler made 36 saves.

The Queen City Steam (0-2-1) skated to a 3-3 tie with the Minnesota Junior Hockey League's Rochester Ice Hawks. Forwards Alexander Dobrzeniecki and Matthew Wrightson and defenseman William Devlin connected for the Steam goals, and netminder Matthew Leon turned aside 33 shots.

The Chicago Hitmen (0-2-1) fell to the WSHL's El Paso Rhinos, 7-1. Forward Anthony Domico scored the Hitmen's only goal, and Nicholas Kohn and Peter Mason combined to stop 34 shots.
