Northeast forward Gerbis makes NCAA commitment
February 20, 2020
The Northeast Generals of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are excited to announce that captain and Top Prospects forward Stephen Gerbis has committed to play NCAA Dvision III Hockey for Morrisville State for the 2020-21 season.
Gerbis, 20, is in his second season playing in the NA3HL with the Generals. The 6’1/185 lbs. native Bradenton, Florida has been very hot during the 2019-20 season. He currently has 94 points (25 goals, 69 assists) in just 40 games. The 94-point output is good for second in the league in scoring, and his 69 assists has already broken a team record for assists in a season with seven regular season games to go (and 10th all time in the NA3HL).
Gerbis was also selected to and played in the 2020 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the Coastal Division team, where he had two points in three games.
In 2018-19, Gerbis played 43 games and had 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points as the Generals made it to the Division Finals.
“Stephen is a great kid and we are really happy for him. We have a young team and he was such a logical choice to step up and fill the leadership void from the pervious guys. He is always going 100% on and off the ice. There are no shifts off or days off for Stephen. He has helped this young team gel pretty quickly and you can see by the standings and the leading scorers that he has had a huge impact on the organization. It’s a great accomplishment and Morrisville is getting a great player and person,” said Generals Head Coach Darryl Locke.
Morrisville is part of the SUNY schools in New York and plays in the prestigious SUNYAC conference. The Mustangs currently sit at 8-7 overall and 5-3 in league play. They are in a tie for 3rd place in their conference.
Stephen is the first NCAA commitment of the season for the first place Generals. Many more should follow in the next few weeks as the Division’s top team pushes towards the playoffs.
