St. Louis forward Hofstetter makes NCAA commitment

March 17, 2020

Sean Hofstetter played in the 2019 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament.

The St. Louis Jr. Blues, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that forward Sean Hofstetter has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Concordia University-Wisconsin. The Falcons, located in Mequon, Wisconsin, play in the NCHA.

Hofstetter, 20, joined the Jr. Blues last season after an excellent youth career for the Affton Americans and AIC Prospects. In his two seasons of junior hockey, the 6’1/175 lbs. native of Columbia, Illinois, grew into one of the Jr. Blues’ most consistent scoring threats, with 53 goals and 55 assists in 91 career games.

He enjoyed a breakout campaign in the recently concluded 2019-20 season, with 35 goals and 32 assists for 67 points and a plus-minus rating of +39, all team highs. Last season, Hofstetter represented the Central Division at the 2019 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament in Attleboro, Mass., where he scored a goal and an assist in three games.

“Having watched Sean grow as a player from a very young age as an Affton American to a St. Louis Jr. Blue has been a pleasure,” said Jr. Blues head coach Chris Flaugher. “Sean followed in the footsteps of his uncle Kraig Steckler of wearing the Jr. Note and got to play for the team that his late grandfather Frank “Steck” Steckler spent many years as the general manager.”

Flaugher added, “Sean played a big part in our success the past two seasons. As an organization we are extremely proud of what Sean has accomplished with our program, earning a college hockey opportunity through the NA3HL.”

Hofstetter becomes the third Jr. Blue to commit at the Division III level this season, joining Clayton Dawe (SUNY-Fredonia) and Will Oliver (Wentworth Institute of Technology). In addition, forward Seamus Campbell verbally committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Quinnipiac earlier this season.
