Granite City forward Sommers makes NCAA commitment

The Granite City Lumberjacks, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that forward and captain Bailey Sommers has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Hamline University located in St. Paul, MN. 

 

The Hamline University Pipers are members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (M.I.A.C) and Bailey will represent them for the 2020-21 season.

 

Sommers, 20, played for the Lumberjacks in 141 career regular season & playoff games, scoring 63 goals and 62 assists and was a +96 in the in three seasons with Granite City. Sommers was also selected to and played in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the Selects Red team.

 

This past season was special for the 6’4/215 lbs. native of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, as he took over sole possession as the Jacks’ all-time leader in goals scored in a career and landed 5th in all time regular season points. During the 2019-20 campaign, Sommers was 2nd in team scoring with 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) in 39 games played.

 

“I really enjoyed my time playing for the Granite City Lumberjacks. They helped me grow both on and off the ice and the coaches, billets, staff, ownership and super-fans are second to none. I will always remember my time as a Jack,” stated Bailey.

 

Lumberjacks head coach Bradley Willner stated, “Bailey has developed each of his years with us. He has matured both off and, on the ice, and has grown into a player who will excel at the next level. We wish Bailey the best of luck on his next chapter in his hockey career at Hamline.”
