St. Louis forward Wiethaupt makes college commitment

May 14, 2020
The St. Louis Jr. Blues, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that forward Jacob Wiethaupt has committed to play ACHA Division 1 hockey at Missouri State University. The Ice Bears, located in Springfield, MO, play ACHA Division I hockey in the WCHL.

A native of O’Fallon, Missouri, the 6’0/170 lbs. right-hander joined the Jr. Blues from Carshield AAA in the NAPHL and quickly established himself as one of the team’s top scoring threats.

In 79 career Jr. Blues games, he found the back of the net 53 times and recorded the exact same number of assists, finishing his junior career with a plus/minus rating of +55. In last season’s playoffs, Wiethaupt played in all seven games and averaged a point per game (2 G, 5 A).

“Jake is the definition of a top-line offensive talent,” said Jr. Blues head coach Chris Flaugher. “He’s quick, physical, and ready and willing to get in the dirty areas to score goals. We wish him all the best next year in Springfield.”

Wiethaupt's transition to Junior hockey was made easier by his experience playing high-level youth hockey, including three seasons in the NAPHL, all in the St. Louis area. After his bantam season with the St. Louis AAA Blues in 2013-14, Wiethaupt joined the St. Louis Selects 16U squad, logging 25 games in the NAPHL season and recording 8g-9a--17pts in 2015-16. The following season saw him move up to the Selects' 18U squad for 9 NAPHL games, during which he posted five points, and play some high school hockey as well for Fort Zumwalt South High, where he thrived with 25 goals, 20 assists and 45 points in just 15 games. He then closed out his youth hockey career during the 2017-18 season with Carshield AAA 18U as their captain, notching 10g-11a--21 points in 18 NAPHL contests.

Wiethaupt becomes the sixth member of the 2019-20 Jr. Blues team to make a college commitment; he is also the second alumnus to commit to Missouri State, joining defenseman Mark Capkovic.
