Willmar goaltender Haugen makes NCAA commitment

June 24, 2020

The Willmar WarHawks of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that Top Prospects goaltender Lukas Haugen has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for St. Olaf College.

Haugen, 19, just completed his first season of junior hockey in the NA3HL. The 6’5/194 lbs. native of Excelsior, Minnesota, appeared in 17 games during the 2019-20 season and recorded a 5-9-3 record. That included a 3.48 goals against average and a very respectable .922 save percentage, which ranked 11th in the NA3HL.

On December 6th of this past season he was called up to the USHL’s Waterloo Blackhawks in an emergency back-up role.

Haugen was also selected to and played in the 2020 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the West Division team, where he shined at the event, allowed just two goals in three game and making 41 saves.

“Lukas is a phenomenal goalie and an even better kid. He's stellar in the classroom, as well as, on the ice. This past season he either stole or kept us in countless games and St. Olaf is lucky to have him. We wish him all the best,” said Kirk Olimb, WarHawks Head Coach and GM.

Prior to playing in the NA3HL, Haugen played high school hockey in Minnesota for Richfield/Southwest Christian.
