Saturday Scores: Steel find win column
New Ulm 5 @ Willmar 3 – The Steel picked up their first win of the 2020-21 season as five different players scored in a 5-3 win. The Steel jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Joey Gimberlin, James Spaargaren, and Corey Stormer. Willmar cut the lead to 3-2 in the 2nd period with goals from Drew Sandy and Louis Anders, but the Steel put the game out of reach with goals from Zach Maillette and Tommy Michelsen. Jack Willis had the other goal for the WarHawks. Griffin Foster made 23 saves in the win, while Cooper Olson made 30 saves in the loss.
Oklahoma City 4 @ TX Brahmas 3 – The top spot in the South Division may be up for grabs this season after the Blazers went on the road and handed the Brahmas their first loss of the season on Saturday. Blazers goalie Jacob Ahl made 34 saves in the win. The Blazers got 2nd period goals from Noah Roitman and Tristan Warr, and 3rd period goals from Thomas Srsha and the game-winner from Noah Henslee. The Brahmas got goals from Micah Maldonado, Joseph Dorion, and Danny Barry.
Mid Cities 2 @ Louisiana 7 – The Drillers fired 56 shots on goal and cruised to a 7-2 win over the Stars. Seven different players scored for the Drillers, which included two 1st period goals from Landen Sill and Chandler Martin. The lead swelled to 5-0 with 2nd period goals from Thomas Mougin, Bobby Hathcock, and Ben Cope. Josh Trip and Brendan Krawczyk finshed the scoring in the 3rd period. Tanner Daly and William Wood had the goals for the Stars. Jacob King made 13 saves in the win, while Sean Guerin made 49 saves in the loss.
Atlanta 5 @ TX RoadRunners 3 – Eddie Slack had a hat-trick and an assist to lead the Capitals to a 5-3 road win in College Station to stay perfect on the season at 5-0. Slack scored the opening three goals for Atlanta and Liam Moore and Nicholas Cyprian added 3rd period goals. The RoadRunners got goals from Tim Marsico, Myles Westbrook, and Anthony Lautz. Greg Smith made 31 saves in the win, while Cailean McDonald made 46 saves in the loss.
Wausau 2 @ Milwaukee 5 – The Power rolled to a weekend sweep of the RiverWolves thanks to a 5-2 win on Saturday as goalie Kirk Davis made 37 saves in the win. The Power jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Nico Piehl, Maxwell Erstad, and Tyler Nelson. Wausau cut the lead down to 3-2 with goals from Nolan Gifford and Isaac Wickersheim, but the Power put the game on ice with two 3rd period goals from Garrett Alton.
Bay State 2 @ Danbury 4 – The Jr. Hat Tricks jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back in a convincing 4-2 win on Saturday over the Bobcats. Danbury led 2-0 after the 1st period as Ryan Wojciechowski and Nicholas Rogers lit the lamp. The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 2nd period as Kolby Donovan and Drew Goodman scored for Danbury. The Bobcats scored their two goals in the 3rd period to make it a 4-2 final as Cameron Kinsell and Troy Harwell found the back of the net. Danbury goalie Trey Hirschfield made 25 saves in the win, while Nathan Moffitt took the loss with 18 saves.
North Iowa 2 @ Alexandria 4 – Blizzard goalie Joey Greilich made 33 saves to lead the Blizzard to a 4-2 upset of the North Iowa Bulls. The Bulls went up 1-0 with a 1st period goal from Cal Nauss. The Blizzard then exploded for three goals in the 2nd period to take a 3-1 lead as Caleb Strong, Cole Lehmann, and Colin Tushie all scored. The Bulls pulled to within a goal with a late 2nd period goal from Hayden Fox. The Blizzard added an insurance goal in the 3rd period from Cole Klingbeil. Evan Babekuhl made 32 saves in the loss.
