Friday Finals: Sheridan stays hot with 10th straight win

Peoria goalie Cole Walter, who was just named the NA3HL Goalie of the Month for November this past week, made 47 saves in a 1-0 shutout on Friday night helping the Mustangs to their 4th straight win.

Yellowstone 2 @ Sheridan 10 – The NA3HL’s hottest team, the Sheridan Hawks, flexed their offensive muscles once again on Friday as they exploded for 10 goals and won their 10th straight game with a 10-2 win over the Quake. Nine different players scored for Sheridan and Joe Teasdale had two goals and two assists in the win. It was all Hawks from the start as they opened up a 5-1 lead in the 1st period with goals from Teasdale, Blake Billings, Simon Herz, Justin Schwartzmiller, and Nathan Gilleshammer. The Quake made it 5-1 at the end of the period with a goal from Jack Harris. It was more Hawks offense in the 2nd period as they scored four more goals, which included another from Teasdale and others from Briar Sylvester, Stepan Ruta, and Lucas Gudz. Zach Carson would add another goal in the 3rd period. Jack Luttringer also scored for the Quake. James Downie made 17 saves in the win, while Gavin Hudspeth made 11 saves in the loss.

Great Falls 3 @ Helena 2 – It was a battle of goalies in Helena as the Americans edged the Bighorns, 3-2 to stay atop the Frontier Division standings. The Americans scored a goal in each period with Henry Chavez putting the road side ahead 1-0 in the 1st period. Harley Hyhuis added a 2nd period goal and Cole Komarek added the eventual game-winner in the 3rd period. The Bighorns got both their goals from Andrew MacCallum. Americans goalie Trever Mellen made 48 saves in the win, while Bighorns goalie Anthony Adleman was almost equally as good with 49 saves.

El Paso 2 @ TX RoadRunners 5 – The much-improved RoadRunners proved they are for real with a 5-2 home win over the Rhinos as forward Derek Boutin had a hat-trick and two assists and goalie Jaxon Taylor made 56 saves in the win, which was his RoadRunners debut. El Paso went up 1-0 with a 1st period goal from Cole Schneider. The RoadRunners responded with four straight goals to make it a 4-1 game, which included two from Boutin and others from Myles Westbrook and Seth Payson. El Paso drew to within 4-2 midway through the 3rd period with a goal from Gino Sessa, but Boutin’s third goal of the game secured the win. Rhinos goalie Calijah Hunter made 38 saves in the loss.

Northeast 6 @ Bay State 2 – The Generals won their 4th straight game and moved back into 1st place in the East Division with a 6-2 win. Matthew Coe scored twice in the 3rd period for the Generals in the win. All the other Northeast goals came in the 1st period as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead with markers from Deacon More, Payton Felix, Nick Wracker, and Austin Crisp. The Bobcats got their goals from Zakary Justice and John Kosa. Generals goalie Espen Reager made 34 saves in the win, while Nathan Moffitt took the loss with 3 saves. Zack Roncarati made 52 saves in a relief appearance.

Peoria 1 @ Milwaukee 0 – The NA3HL’s Goalie of the Month in November, Cole Walter, continued his hot play into December as he stopped all 47 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the 2020-21 season as the Mustangs edged Milwaukee, 1-0. The lone goal of the game came in the 2nd period as Quinton Murphy scored shorthanded. Power goaltender Cole Shane also played well, stopping 41 of 42 shots.

Oregon 5 @ St. Louis 2 – The Tradesmen continued their climb up the Central Division standings with a 5-2 win over the Jr. Blues on Friday. Sam VanderHoeven scored twice in the win. Oregon took a 2-0 lead with goals from VanderHoeven and Jacob Best. The Jr. Blues made it 2-1 in the 2nd period on a goal from Vinny Servizzi. The Tradesmen then took control later in the period with another goal from VanderHoeven and Jack Sumner to make it 4-1. In the 3rd period, Parker Severson added an empty-net goal. Mike Ivory had the other goal for the Jr. Blues. Tradesmen goalie Cole Garver made 18 saves in the win, while Jeb Lindy took the loss with 13 saves. Owen Carlson stopped all 18 shots in a relief appearance.

Gillette 6 @ Butte 3 – The game was suspended early in the 3rd period due to poor ice conditions and will be resumed on Saturday.
