Saturday Scores: Power among six teams to sweep weekend

Noah McDonald helped the Louisiana Drillers to a weekend sweep, which included back-to-back shutouts.

Louisiana 9 @ TX RoadRunners 0 – The Drillers completed a weekend road sweep of the RoadRunners thanks to another shutout, this time in a convincing 9-0 win on Saturday. Drillers goalie Chris Branch stopped all 41 shots that came his way in the win. The Drillers led 2-0 after the 1st period with goals from Jack Lambert and Josh Hrip. Lambert would score again in the 2nd period as would Timothy Miller to make it 4-0. The Drillers poured it on in the 3rd period, which included another goal from Hrip, and others from Mark Kurliandchyk, Noah MacDonald, Spencer Dixon, and Mark Phillips. RoadRunners goalie Cailean McDonald made 46 saves in the loss.

Bozeman 2 @ Sheridan 4 – The Hawks won their 24th straight game and moved their record to 25-1 as they doubled up the Icedogs on Saturday, 4-2. Bozeman jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a 1st period goal from Sam Bourdon. The Hawks responded later in the period with a goal from Nick Wieben to make it 1-1. The Hawks took over in the 2nd period with goals from Jacob Cummings and Blake Billings to make it 3-1. Just :08 seconds into the 3rd period, Logan Syrup scored to secure the win for Sheridan. Luke McKay had the other goal for Bozeman. Luke Fundator made 29 saves in the win, while Evan Wittchow made 48 saves in the loss.

St. Louis 2 @ Milwaukee 4 – A three-goal 2nd period propelled the Power to a 4-2 win and weekend sweep of the visiting Jr. Blues. St. Louis was on the board first thanks to a 1st period goal from Matt McGowan. The Power would score three times in the 2nd period to take a 3-2 lead as Nico Piehl, Garrett Alton, and Teddy Marion found the back of the net, while Vinny Servizzi scored for St. Louis. In the 3rd period, Tyler Nelson added an insurance goal to secure the win. Cole Shane made 24 saves in the win, while Owen Carlson made 18 saves in the loss.

New Ulm 2 @ Willmar 5 – The WarHawks won their second game of the weekend and stayed in 2nd place in the West Division thanks to a 5-2 win over the Steel. Willmar jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with a pair of goals from Lewis Rowan. The Steel cut the lead to 2-1 later in the period with a goal from Joey Gimberlin. In the 2nd period, the lead swelled to 4-1 as Gavin Uckele and Alex Kupka scored. The Steel made it 4-2 late in the period with a goal from Bauer Barry. Cole Wigestrand scored in the 3rd period for the WarHawks to secure the 5-2 win. WarHawks goalie Lukas Haugen made 22 saves in the win, while Griffin Foster made 41 saves in the loss.

Wausau 3 @ Rochester 4 (OT) – Dylan Schneider had two goals, including the overtime-winner, and an assist as the Grizzlies completed a weekend sweep of the RiverWolves thanks to a 4-3 win on Saturday. Garrett Smith and Matthew DeRosa had 1st period goals for the Grizzlies and Schneider scored in the 2nd period and OT. Wausau got a pair of goals from Ethan Cumming and a 3rd period tally from Kaidden O’Connor, which tied the game at 3-3 and sent things to overtime. Grizzlies goalie Shane Soderwall made 24 saves in the win, while Caleb Sauer made 47 saves in the OT loss.

TX Brahmas 9 @ Mid Cities 1 – The Brahmas rolled to a weekend sweep of their cross-town rivals thanks to a 9-1 win on Saturday. Things looked good for the Stars early thanks to the game’s first goal from Aaron Best, which put the Stars ahead, 1-0. It was all Brahmas after that as Jared Scott, Tyler Blanchard, and RJ Muckensturm scored later in the 1st period to make it 3-1. The lead increased to 5-1 in the 2nd period as Jack Cooper and Benjamin Mondou added goals. In the 3rd period, Blanchard added his second of the game and Jacob Kalandyk, Danny Barry, and Gabe Coppo also scored. Brahmas goalie JP Marinaro made 12 saves in the win, while Nahuel Veyan made 63 saves in the loss.

Atlanta 1 @ El Paso 5 – Five different players scored as the Rhinos beat the Capitals for a second straight night thanks to a 5-1 win. El Paso went up 1-0 thanks to a 1st period goal from Zach Carson. The lead swelled to 3-0 in the 2nd period as Easton Easterson and Ian Carpenter found the back of the net. Atlanta made it 3-1 later in the 2nd period with their lone goal from Nicholas Cyprian. The Rhinos put the game out of reach in the 3rd period with goals from Colton Chipman and Tristin Maestas to make it a 5-1 final. Rhinos goalie Rustam Kulizade made 16 saves in the win, while Matthew Genter made 21 saves in the loss.

Granite City 6 @ Alexandria 3 – The Lumberjacks got goals from six different players in a 6-3 road win in Alexandria. Granite City took an early 2-0 lead with 1st period goals from Matthew Metsa and Tucker Skime. The Blizzard tied the game at 2-2 in the 2nd period with goals from Colin Tushie and Dallas Duckson. The Lumberjacks then added four goals in the 3rd period to secure the win, which included goals from Zach Kilen, Ben Anderson, Cody Dias, and Noah Bissett. Sean Kenny had the other goal for the Blizzard. Lumberjacks goalie Brandon Shantz made 26 saves in the win, while Bailey Rosch made 31 saves in the loss.

Yellowstone 2 @ Great Falls 7 – Jake Hayes had two goals and an assist to lead the Americans to a 7-2 win over the Quake. The Americans led 3-1 after two periods, which included goals from Hayes, Connor Chesner, and Bryson Fletcher, while Aiden Croce scored for Yellowstone. The Americans went on a four-goal tear in the 3rd period to cement the win, which included another goal from Hayes and others from Daniel Crutcher, Garret Weisenburger, and Henry Chavez. Jack Harris had the other Quake goal. Great Falls goalie Ben Winkler made 24 saves in the win, while Matt Schoer made 51 saves in the loss.
