NA3HL announces Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey

February 2, 2021

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending January 31, 2021. The divisional stars of the week are awards given each week of the regular season to the top-performing players in each of the five divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.

Central Division Star of the Week: Ethan Cumming, D, Wausau RiverWolves

Since joining the RiverWolves on Jan. 15, Cumming has averaged a point-per-game on the blue line, thanks in large part to a five-point outburst in a pair of road tilts against Rochester this weekend. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defenseman chipped in two goals on Friday, then posted a another two-goal effort on Saturday, logging an assist in that game as well. Cumming has found twine in three straight games now, bagging five goals in that span, and boasts 6g-1a—7pts in seven games with Wausau this season.

2nd Star: Jared Bratton, F, St. Louis Jr. Blues

East Division Star of the Week: Matti Tauriainen, F, Springfield Jr. Hat Tricks

Tauriainen made his NA3HL debut last week, lining up for Springfield’s road matchup against Bay State. The Texan made a strong impression on his new team scoring two goals, including the game-winner in the third period, to help the Jr. Hat Tricks take the win. The 2001-born forward will look to build on his solid start to NA3HL life as Springfield takes on Bay State, New England and Northeast this week.

2nd Star: Aleksandr Gamzatov, F, New England Sharks

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Nic Gustafson, F, New England Sharks — Nathan Hadley, G, Springfield Jr. Hat Tricks

Frontier Division Star of the Week: Isaac Ellingson, F, Helena Bighorns

The Bighorns hosted Missoula for a clash of two teams jockeying for playoff position, and Ellingson stepped up with five points in two games to help his team pick up three of four possible points. The second-year sniper posted a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win on Thursday, then grabbed two more tallies and another helper in Friday’s rematch, including a late marker to force OT. Ellingson is currently riding a three-game point streak with 4g-4a—8pts in that span, and has recorded 10g-16a—26pts in 27 games on the year.

2nd Star: Jacob Cummings, F, Sheridan Hawks

South Division Star of the Week: John Mulvihill, F, El Paso Rhinos

Mulvihill and the Rhinos hosted Atlanta for a three-game set last week, a tripleheader that saw the San Juan Capistrano, CA native record 2g-5a—7pts to help his team to three important wins. After performances with two helpers on Friday and three more on Saturday, Mulvihill then showed his clutch scoring ability on Sunday as he potted both the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 3-2 OT win. Mulvihill’s first NA3HL campaign has been quite a success thus far, with 17g-23a—40pts in just 22 games this year to lead all Rhinos skaters by a 12-point margin.

West Division Star of the Week: Gavin Uckele, D, Willmar Warhawks

Like Tauriainen in the East Division, Uckele also made his NA3HL debut with the Warhawks last week, netting three goals and one assist from the Willmar blue line in his first two games with the team. On Friday, the Blissfield, MI native posted two goals and a helper to pace a 7-1 win over Alexandria. Following that sterling showing, Uckele potted the game-winning goal in a 5-2 win over New Ulm to go 2-0-0 on the weekend.
