Jr. Hat Tricks and Steel win on Wednesday
Jr. Hat Tricks 3 @ Bobcats 2 – Jr. Hat Tricks goalie Nathan Hadley made 37 saves to lead his team to a 3-2 road win over the Bobcats. Danbury controlled the first two period, which included two goals in the 1st period from Wesley Westendorf and Nikita Kovalev to open up a 2-0 lead. The lead increased to 3-0 as Nicholas Rogers added a goal in the 2nd period. The Bobcats mounted a comeback in the 3rd period, which included goals from James Sandison and Frankie Nigro, but could not find the equalizer. Bobcats goalie Nathan Moffitt made 42 saves in the loss.
Granite City 2 @ New Ulm 3 – Steel goalie Zach Foster made 46 saves to lead his team to a 3-2 win over the visiting Lumberjacks on Wednesday. The Steel opened up a 1-0 lead thanks to a 1st period power play goal from Zach Maillette. The Lumberjacks responded with two goals early in the 2nd period to take a 2-1 lead as Troy Dahlheimer and Hanson O’Leary found the back of the net. Later in the 2nd period, James Spaargaren scored a shorthanded penalty shot goal to even the game at 2-2 heading into the 3rd period. Just over five minutes into the 3rd period, the Steel netted the game-winning goal as Spaargaren scored shorthanded again to put the Steel ahead for good, 3-2. Lumberjacks goalie Brandon Shantz made 31 saves in the loss.
