El Paso defenseman Carpenter signs NAHL tender

May 4, 2021

The El Paso Rhinos of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Ian Carpenter has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the El Paso Rhinos NAHL team, who begin play during the upcoming 2021-22 season in the South Division.

Carpenter, 19, just completed his third season of junior hockey, which has been spent between the NAHL and the NA3HL.

The 6’0/200 lbs. native of Mount Prospect, IL, began the 2020-21 season with the Wichita Falls Warriors in the NAHL. He would later join the Rhinos in the NA3HL, where he played in 25 games during the regular season and recorded 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists).

Carpenter made his NAHL debut during the 2018-19 season with the Jamestown Rebels, appearing in 8 games that season. He played with the Rebels during the entirety of the 2019-20 season, recording five points in 46 games played.

Overall in three junior seasons, Carpenter has played in 61 career NAHL games.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which includes one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2021 NAHL Draft.
