Sheridan forward Cummings makes college commitment
The Sheridan Hawks of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Jacob Cummings has committed to play American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I hockey for Grand Canyon University. Cummings will join former teammate and linemate Blake Billings at GCU.
Cummings, 20, led the NA3HL in scoring during the 2020-21 regular season with 112 points in 39 games, scoring 39 goals and recording 73 assists to average 2.87 points per game. The 5’10/200 lbs. native of Anchorage, AK, added 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) during the Fraser Cup Playoffs and six points (3g, 3a) in the Fraser Cup Championship tournament.
During the regular season, Cummings earned league honors when he became the NA3HL’s November and January Forward of the Month. He was also named the Frontier Division Star of the Week twice in the course of the 2020-21 season.
Cummings played six games with the Hawks during the 2019-20 season, notching two goals and adding five assists before returning to Sheridan for a historic 39-1 regular season and 2020-21 campaign that ended in the Fraser Cup Championship semifinals.
Prior to playing in the NA3HL, Cummings spent two seasons playing in the NAPHL for the Madison Capitols 18U and 16U teams.
Cummings is the fifth Sheridan Hawk who will play collegiately in the fall, joining Billings, Jonathon Teasdale (SUNY-Buffalo State, NCAA DIII), Justin Schwartzmiller (Concordia University, NCHA DIII) and Nick Wieben (Concordia University, NCHA DIII).
