Newpower and Campion Suit Up For Bulls in NAHL

December 16, 2021

Carter Newpower and Jack Campion were called up to the North Iowa Bulls from the Mason City Toros this past weekend. They became the second and third Toros to play in a North American Hockey League game this season.

Newpower made his NAHL debut in the two games against the Springfield Jr. Blues and Campion played his first two NAHL games since appearing with the Minot Minotauros on Oct. 16, 2020.

The two forwards were reunited with their regular Toros' linemate, Sota Isogai, who has played seven games with the Bulls since being called up on Nov. 20. The trio were the Bulls' starting line on Saturday night at the Mason City Arena.

"It was a really cool moment for those guys and their families," Head Coach Nick Bruneteau said. "It was cool for (Bulls Head Coach) Todd (Sanden) and I to see as well. Those three deserved it and it was good for them to be rewarded."

Newpower is in his second season in the River City and was a key part of the Bulls’ 2021 Fraser Cup championship team. He scored 13 goals and added 18 assists in 35 games for North Iowa last season in the Bulls’ final NA3HL campaign before moving to the NAHL. He has already surpassed last season’s NA3HL production with 22 goals and 27 assists in the first half of this season for the Toros.

The Cottage Grove, Minn. native, was the top scorer on his team in that 2021 Fraser Cup tournament, posting seven points over the four-game weekend and tallying at least one in every game. His empty-net goal in the Fraser Cup title game sealed the Bulls’ first championship in five years.

Campion is also in his second season with the organization. He leads the Toros with 50 points through the first 24 games of this season and scored the game-winning goal in this past Sunday's 4-3 win over Rochester. Campion leads the Toros with six game-winning goals and is tied for the team lead in plus-minus with a plus-31.

The Crystal, Minn, native scored 16 goals and added 17 points in 33 games last season before adding three goals in four Fraser Cup Championship games.

The Bulls travel to face the Bismarck Bobcats Friday and Saturday while the Toros visit Willmar on Friday and then Rochester on Saturday.
