Sunday Wrap-Up: Cyclones, Sabres punch playoff tickets

Kael Delzer scored two goals, including the OT-winner, and added an assist to lead the Sabres to a 5-4 win, which clinched a playoff spot in the Frontier for the Sabres.

Milwaukee 2 @ Wausau 3 (OT) – The Cyclones punched their ticket to the Fraser Cup Playoffs as they claimed the final spot in the Central with a 3-2 overtime win over the Power. Hayden Shoemake had two goals, including the OT-winner in the win. Wausau struck first early in the 1st period with a goal from Gage Vierzba. The Power took a 2-1 lead later in the period with goals from Marshall Walker and Ben Cremers. Shoemake tied the game at 2-2 in the 2nd period, then 2:40 into overtime, Shoemake scored the winner. Zach Dosan made 31 saves in the win, while Kaden Grant made 34 saves in the loss.

Yellowstone 4 @ Badlands 5 (OT) – Kael Delzer scored two goals, including the OT-winner, and added an assist to lead the Sabres to a 5-4 win, which clinched a playoff spot in the Frontier for the Sabres. After the Quake opened up a 2-0 lead on goals from Cameron Deforest and Tyler Hanson, the Sabres would respond with two goals from Keagon Holloway in the 2nd period to cut the lead down to 3-2 as Gustav Ostman added the lone goal for the Quake in the 2nd period. In the 3rd period, the Sabres got goals from Hunter Fischbach and Delzer, while Gabe Coppo scored for the Quake to tie the game at 4-4. Delzer’s OT-winner came less than a minute into the extra frame. Zach Broxterman made 28 saves in the win, while Edvin Falkenstrom made 47 saves in the loss.

Northeast 3 @ Long Beach 2 (OT) – The Generals won their 16th straight game as Payton Felix scored :44 seconds into overtime to lead the Generals to a 3-2 win. Long Beach had goals in the 1st period from Christopher Barnard and a 2nd period goal from Jack Fitzpatrick. The Generals responded with two goals in the 2nd period from Nolan Murphy and Braeden Kennedy to tie the game at 2-2, setting up Felix’s OT heroics. Luke Fundator made 25 saves in the win, while Greyson Skirpan made 34 saves in the loss.

TX Brahmas 5 @ Atlanta (1) – Five different players scored and Brandon Shantz made 28 saves to lead the Brahmas to a 5-1 win and sweep of the Capitals. The Brahmas led 2-0 after one period as Michael Imala and Benjamin Mondou lit the lamp. Micah Maldonado, Cameron Colberg, and Aleksandr Gamzatov all scored in the 2nd period to make it 5-0. The Capitals lone goal came late in the 3rd period on a power play tally from Kaleb Miller. Hudgel Selk made 42 saves in the loss for Atlanta.

Austin 0 @ TX RoadRunners 6 – The RoadRunners got a 14-save shutout from Kaleb Banks and a hat-trick and assist from Jaron Ketterman as they completed a three-game sweep of the Ice Bats thanks to a 6-0 win. Ketterman scored twice in the 1st period along with a goal from Kyle Portlock. The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 2nd period as Portlock added his second goal of the game. In the 3rd period Derek Boutin and Ketterman rounded out the scoring. Austin goalie Sebastian Skarzenski made 63 saves in the loss.

Mid Cities 4 @ Louisiana 9 – The Drillers kept their slim playoff hopes alive as they erupted for 9 goals in a win and three-game sweep of the Stars. The Drillers opened up a 5-0 lead in the 1st period as Josh Hrip scored twice and Michael Harrel, Thomas Mougin, and Anderson O’Connor also scored goals. Jack Lambert and O’Connor scored in the 2nd period and Harrel would score again in the 3rd period as would Mark Kurliandchyk. Mid Cities got two goals from Ilnur Madiarov and others from Brendon Zeis and Anfernee Machado. Brandon Keeney and Riley Roberson combined for the win, and Quillon Bowman made 31 saves in the loss.

Mason City 2 @ Alexandria 3 – Blizzard goalie Andrew Tuttle made 42 saves to lead his team to a 3-2 win over the visiting Toros on Sunday. The Toros scored first thanks to a 1st period goal from Luke Stevens. Alexandria tied the game in the 2nd period on a goal from Charlie Larsen. In the 3rd period a pair of goals from Alexandria’s Matt Scribner gave the home side a 3-1 lead. Blake Ulve scored late for the Toros to make it a 3-2 final. Mason City goalie Erik Chaffe made 30 saves in the loss.

New Ulm 0 @ Granite City 10 – Luke Delzer had a hat-trick and two assists as the Lumberjacks cruised to their 38th straight win as they shutout the Steel, 10-0. The Lumberjacks scored three goals in the 1st period as Joe Greniuk, Hayden Walters, and Delzer all scored. In the 2nd period Delzer scored again to go along with goals from Ben Tarlton, Andrew Butler, Bjorn Jorgenson, and Brett Reed. Delzer added his hat-trick in the 3rd period to go along with a goal from Cody Dias to make it a 10-0 final. Quentin Sigurdson made 10 saves in the shutout win, while Nolan Lacosse made 21 saves in the loss.
