Sunday Wrap-Up: Bighorns claim Frontier title on final day
Great Falls 2 @ Helena 7 – The Bighorns won the Frontier Division regular season title in their final regular season game as they beat the Americans, 7-2. Defenseman Johnathan Peterson had a goal and three assists in the win. Helena jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 1st period and never looked back, getting goals from Gavyn Galloway, TJ Norris, and Nick Cofer. Liam Bland and Peterson added goals in the 2nd period and Harlan Wojtusik and Norris scored in the 3rd period. Americans goals came from Micah Serino and Daniel Crutcher. Helena goalie Gabe Swanson made 35 saves in the win, while Ben Winkler made 59 saves in the loss.
Danbury 3 @ Long Beach 2 (OT) – Reese Tamburo scored the overtime-winning goal just :49 seconds into the extra frame to give Danbury a 3-2 win in Long Beach on Sunday. The Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Matt Carson. The Jr. Hat Tricks stormed back in the 3rd period with goals from Roman Winicki and Nick Rogers to tie the game at 2-2 setting up the OT heroics for Tamburo. Brennan Churchill made 32 saves in the win, while Greyson Skirpan made 22 saves in the loss.
Atlanta 7 @ Austin 2 – The Capitals got a hat-trick and an assist from Nick Mumford as they completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Ice Bats with a 7-2 win on Sunday. The Capitals jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two periods, getting goals from Anthony O’Neal, Jake Huska, and Mumford. Atlanta then scored four more times in the 3rd period, including two more from Mumford and others from Chase Wilhelm and Kaleb Miller. Austin’s goals were scored by Xavier Juarez and Dominic Toews. Paul Jarvis made 26 saves in the win, while Trace Wiles made 48 saves in the loss.
Northeast 6 @ New Jersey 1 – The Generals moved their winning streak to 19 straight games and stayed alive for the NA3HL’s overall title as they handled the Titans on Sunday, 6-1. Nick Wracker had two goals in the win. After a scoreless 1st period, the Generals put the game away in the 2nd period with four goals from Matthew Nuzzolilo, Caiden Hess, Tyler Ramm, and Nolan Murphy. Wracker would then add his two in the 3rd period to complete the scoring. The lone Titans goal came from Isaiah McKinney. Luke Fundator made 18 saves in the win, while Colin Freitas mad 35 saves in the loss.
Mid Cities 3 @ Oklahoma City 8 - The Ice Hawks breezed to an 8-3 win and three-game weekend sweep of the Stars. Richard Indermill had a hat-trick in the win. Indermill scored twice in the 1st period and Avery Pittman also added a goal to make it 3-0 after one period. The Ice Hawks added four more goals in the 2nd period as Vincent Anderson, Josiah Menger, Garrett Conner and Aaron Best scored. Indermill would then cap off his hat-trick in the 3rd period. All three Stars goals came in the 2nd period including two from Blake Lind and one from William Wood. Garrett Johnson made 15 saves in the win, while Adler Hoagland made 51 saves in the loss.
Milwaukee 2 @ St. Louis 1 – Power goalie Spencer Northway made 25 saves to lead his team to a 2-1 road win in St. Louis. The Jr. Blues scored first with a 1st period goal from Carter Eifert. The Power responded with two goals in the 2nd period to secure the 2-1 win as Patrick Toomey and Michael Dalaly lit the lamp. Ethan Jourden made 33 saves in the loss.
El Paso 7 @ TX Brahmas 9 – The Brahmas scored five goals in the 3rd period to come from behind to beat the Rhinos, 9-7. El Paso led 6-4 after two periods as Blake Polifka scored twice and Caden Butler, Riley Hunt-Bahn, Johnathan Gunn, and Connor Thompson scored. The Brahmas had goals from Andrew Kungle, Keegan McArthur and two from Michael Imala. In the 3rd period, Matej Palfy scored twice, McArthur added another goal and Aleksandr Gamzatov and Gion Coray also scored, while Hunt-Bahn added his second of the game for El Paso. Brandon Shantz made 12 saves in the win, while Camden Pendleton made 29 saves in the loss.
