Power promote Mitchell to head coach
The Milwaukee Power of the NA3HL has promoted John Mitchell to Head Coach and Assistant General Manager.
“From the very first day we brought John into the organization we always knew this day would come. His knowledge of the game is immense. His passion for the game is tremendous. His ability to inspire and motivate our players to be their best versions every day, on and off the ice, is second to no one. We have huge expectations for this organization over the next 5 seasons in competing for a Central Division and Fraser Cup championship. I am confident having John lead our organization will take us to the next levels inside the NA3HL and help position us one step closer to achieving our expectations,” said Chase Ernst, CEO of Local Hockey Partners and President of the Milwaukee Power.
“We are excited to see John get to work with this veteran team that we’ve assembled for the 2022-23 season,” said Kevin Marion, VP Hockey Operations/General Manager. “John will need to utilize his tremendous hockey knowledge and playing and coaching experience both on and off the ice, as our division is a grind and can eat you up if not prepared. I am confident that John will help elevate the Power to the next level,” added Marion.
A native of Neenah, Wisconsin, Mitchell brings experience from both a player and coaching perspective. He played two seasons in the USHL before heading to the University of Wisconsin to become a Badger where he was a NCAA National Champion and NCAA runner-up.
After leaving Wisconsin, he signed an NHL contract with the Anaheim Ducks, completing his 200th career professional game in 2014. Following his playing career, John moved on to coaching, first with Team Wisconsin in 2015, then to University School of Milwaukee in 2018, moving on the Power as an assistant for the 2021-22 season.
