Helena forward Gibboney makes college commitment
The Helena Bighorns of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Erik Gibboney has committed to play ACHA Division I hockey for the University of Utah.
Gibboney, 20, just completed his first season playing in the NA3HL and second season of junior hockey overall. The 6’2/180 lbs. native of Salt Lake, UT, had a fantastic first season in the NA3HL, recording 21 goals and 43 assists in 47 games played, good for a 1.36 point per game average. He finished the regular season with a +46 rating.
Gibboney also scored a pair of goals and had eight assists with a +10 rating in 8 Fraser Cup Playoff games, contributing to a Helena playoff run that saw them make it to the Fraser Cup semifinals.
Gibboney was awarded the Frontier Division Star of the Week in the week of November 8-14 where he had two goals and six points in two games versus the Yellowstone Quake.
Prior to playing junior hockey, Gibboney spent three seasons in the NAPHL playing for the Colorado Springs Tigers. He spent the 2017-18 season with the Tigers 16U team and the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with the Tigers 18U team.
“Gibby is a smooth skating forward with impressive hands. He has high hockey IQ and great playmaking abilities. He is patient with the puck and often finds himself in high opportune scoring chances. He will be a great addition to our specialty teams next year as well. We are excited to welcome Erik to the Utah Hockey family,” said University of Utah Head Coach Morgan Feenie.
