Friday Finals: Toros hand Lumberjacks first loss

Tyler Fromolz stopped all 19 shots he faced as the Oregon Tradesmen blanked the Milwaukee Power 3-0.

Mason City 4 @ Granite City 3 (SO): Carter Newpower scored the lone goal in the shootout to give Mason City the victory and hand Granite City their first loss of the season. The Lumberjacks held a 1-0 lead through one period thanks to Finnigan Greeley’s goal late in the period. The visitors battled back and took the lead in the 2nd thanks to tallies from Ethan Peterson and Easton Tok. Brett Robinson lit the lamp on the power play to even the scores before the end of the period. Cullen Hogan tickled twine for the Toros and Granite City’s Joe Greniuk buried to send the game to overtime and the eventual shootout. In regulation, Zack Ortalano made 29 saves for Mason City while Xander Roberts kept out 26 shots for the Lumberjacks. 

Milwaukee 0 @ Oregon 3 - Tyler Fromolz stopped all 19 shots he faced as the Oregon Tradesmen blanked the Milwaukee Power 3-0. Jordan Larkee opened the scoring with his second goal of the season. Nolan Clark increased the lead in the middle frame with his first goal of the year. Max Rotsaert sealed the win with an empty net tally, also his first of the year. Adam Prokop took the loss in goal despite making 60 saves.

Danbury 3 @ Norwich 4 (OT): Brian Essing buried his third goal of the season 3:09 into overtime to lift the Sea Captains past Danbury for their 6th win of the season. Shane Mazur opened up the scoring 16 minutes into the 1st to give Norwich the first lead. In the 2nd, Essing and Jack Kinahan both tickled twine for Norwich and Reese Tamburo buried for the Jr. Hat Tricks to keep them in the contest. Denis Radchenko helped draw Danbury within one halfway through the 3rd and Tamburo got his second of the night to send the game to overtime. Brendan Pellerito was the victor between the pipes, making 19 saves on 22 shots faced. Ryan Maguire took the loss while keeping out 31 shots. 

Austin 1 @ Louisiana 7: Drillers forward Jack Lambert tallied himself a natural hat trick in their dominant 7-1 victory over Austin. Lambert scored the only goal in the first 20 to carry over a 1-0 Louisiana lead through one. Lambert and Colton Sebastian buried 2nd period goals for Louisiana while Andrew Lee’s goal helped Austin stay close. The Drillers offense was buzzing in the 3rd as Lambert and Rory Neish each lit the lamp and Thomas Mougin buried a pair of goals. John Moriaty made 16 saves in the win while Collin Lemanski made 48 saves for the Ice Bats. 

St. Louis 2 @ Wausau 6: After falling back-to-back nights last weekend, the Cyclones turned things around on home ice and defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues in convincing fashion. After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Cyclones got on the board first with a goal from Chase Chapman. Ricky Nelson doubled the lead later in the period but Gus Immken cut the deficit down with a late goal for the Jr. Blues. Wausau dominated the 3rd period, firing off four consecutive goals from Gabe Randel (2), Gage Vierzba, and Hayden Shoemake. Carson Pishkur scored the remaining goal for St. Louis. Mitch Miscevich had a good performance in net for Wausau, making 30 saves on 32 shots. Ian Zeumer kept out 30 shots in the loss. 

TX RoadRunners 4 @ El Paso 1 - The Texas RoadRunners topped the El Paso Rhinos in a 4-1 final score. In the opening frame Matvey Ivanov (5:41) scored to get Texas ahead 1-0 with the help of Eitan Geralnik and Tyler Love on the assists. In the second period, Tyler Love (7:29) added to the RoadRunners lead with Jack Herron and Kyle Portlock on the assists. Matvey Ivanov (10:20) netted his second of the night getting the RoadRunners ahead 3-0. The Rhinos answered back a minute later with Carson Doyle (11:20) to end the period, 3-1. In the third period, Tyler Love (13:38) scored his second of the night with Jack Herron and Logan Motz getting called on the assists for a 4-1 final score. Hunter Hein was near perfect in the net for the RoadRunners stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced. 

Badlands 0 @ Helena 6 - The Helena Bighorns shutout the Badlands Sabres in a 6-0 final. The Bighorns got on the board in the first period Braden Cunningham (18:12) scoring his fourth of the year to end the period up 1-0. In the second the Bighorns added four goals with Matteo Caputo (2:45), Owen Ramsay (4:14), Camden Cunningham (13:02) and Tyler Bloom (19:38) for a 5-0 score. In the third period, Andrew Deskin (4:52) added to the lead for a 6-0 final. Bighorns goalie Gabe Swanson posted a 37 shot shutout in the win.

Yellowstone 0 @ Great Falls 2: The Great Falls Americans defeated the Yellowstone Quake by a score of 2-0. The Americans got both of their goals that registered for a victory within the 2nd period. Noah Osiowy got things rolling for Great Falls as he scored at 1:38 of the 2nd period. Then later in the 2nd they scored again this time coming from William Fallman at 9:25 of the 2nd period. Josh Koziol stopped all 55 shots in which he saw registering for his first shutout of the 2022-23 campaign, and Edvin Falkenstrom turned away 31 of 33 shots in the loss for the Quake. 

Gillette 11 @ Sheridan 2: The Gillette Wild defeated the Sheridan Hawks by a wide margin of 11-2. Even though the Wild trailed 1-0 they went on to take full control for the rest of the game after that. The Wild was led by Anthony Foster and Sky Solig as they both recorded a total of 4 points within the victory. Jake Turek was the winning goaltender between the pipes as he stopped 28 of 30 shots, and Jack Wood turned away 40 of 51 shots in the loss to Sheridan. 

New Ulm 3 @ Minnesota 4 (SO) - Willem Kerr scored the only goal in the shootout as the Minnesota Loons defeated the New Ulm Steel 4-3. Kerr scored in regulation for Minnesota while Dmitri Kuleshov and Jamison St. Clair also lit the lamp. Josh Gulden netted a goal for New Ulm while Conner Souza scored twice in the third period to force extra time. Matthew Ryynanen stopped 29 shots and all three shooters in the skills competition. Nolan Lacosse was dealt the loss in goal as he made 43.
