Saturday Scores: Ice Wolves streaking in the South
El Paso 1 @ New Mexico 7 - Evan Axell registered a hat trick as the New Mexico Ice Wolves took care of the El Paso Rhinos 7-1 on Saturday night. Andrew Brown, Liam Mooney, Ethan Secord and Max Chagovets all got on the scoreboard for the Ice Wolves. Landon Cain notched the only goal for the Rhinos in a losing effort. Krzysztof Jakubowski made 21 saves to earn the win in between the pipes while Phillip O’Neill and Christopher Burns combined to make 39 stops for El Paso.
Badlands 1 @ Yellowstone 2 (SO) - Brayson Bennett had the game deciding goal in the shootout as the Yellowstone Quake edged the Badlands Sabres by score of 2-1. Dawson Wirth scored 16 seconds into the game for Badlands to give them a 1-0 lead. Derrand Wilcox responded in the second period with a goal of his own and we would stay that way until the skills competition. Teagan Scheurer and Bennett scored for Yellowstone while only Bray Ridnour was able to find the back of the net for Badlands. Edvin Falkenstrom denied 42 of 43 shots to earn the win in net while Zach Broxterman stopped 51 or 52 shots in the loss.
Sheridan 5 @ Great Falls 2 - Ryan McKenna had four helpers to lead the Sheridan Hawks to a 5-2 win over the Great Falls Americans on Saturday night. Josh Humphreys and Parker Norling each had a goal and an assist while Tie Schumacher, Dalton Thomas and McCaffrey Billings each lit the lamp for the Hawks. Russ Rasmussen and Tyler Sunagel picked up the goals for the Americans in a losing effort. Bo Buckley made 55 stops for Sheridan while Ryan Stowe stopped 45 for Great Falls.
Gillette 9 @ Bozeman 0 - Isaac Young had a hat trick and two assists to lead the Gillette Wild to a 9-0 win over the Bozeman Icedogs. Jace Johnson had two goals and three assists while Wylee Gladen had a goal and four helpers. Adam Severson scored twice for Gillette while Alec Waller had a goal and two assists. Cole Wheaton picked up a 17 shutout in goal for the Wild. Sean Smer finished the night with 30 stops.
Helena 3 @ Butte 0 - Marek Andres stopped all 21 shots fired in his direction as the Helena Bighorns blanked the Butte Cobras by a score of 3-0. Padraic Whited led the offensive attack for Helena with a goal and two assists. Tyler Bloom and Cade Holland also scored for the Bighorns in the win. Caleb Cross denied 48 shots for the Cobras in the loss.
Austin 1 @ TX Brahmas 9 - Cameron Colberg had a goal and three helpers as the Texas Brahmas defeated the Austin Ice Bates by a score of 9-1. Joseph Crowley scored two goals awhile George Keeley picked up a goal and two assists. Michael Imala, Benjamin Mondou and Wyatt Witham all picks up a goal and an assist in the victory while Alexander Cagan and Ryan Spreyne also got on the scoresheet for the Brahmas. Maddox Hoff supplied the only goal of the game for the Ice Bats. Riley Gorman made 18 saves to pick up the win while Bryson Frazee stopped 59 shots in the loss.
Oregon 3 @ St. Louis 2 - Easton Simpson’s second goal of the night lifted the Oregon Tradesmen to a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Jr. Blues. Max Rotsaert had the other goal for Oregon. Aidan Besedic had both of the Jr. Blues goals as he now has three on the season. Connor Carroll walked away with the 25 save victory while Jordan Behnen was saddled with the loss. He made 45 saves.
Rochester 2 @ Wausau 3 - Hayden Shoemake scored with just three seconds left in regulation as the Wausau Cyclones upset the Rochester Grizzlies by a score of 3-2. Rochester got out to a 2-0 lead as they received goals from Maksim Lakic and Maxwell Clark. Wausau would respond with the next three tallies as Ricky Nelson and Gage Vierzba found the back of the cage before Shoemake’s late game winner. Mitch Miscevich got the win in between the pipes as he made 38 saves. Tate Cothern took the loss as he made 22 saves.
Mason City 5 @ Willmar 4 - The Mason City Toros scored three times in the final frame to overcome a 4-2 deficit to win 5-4 over the Willmar WarHawks. Cullen Hogan’s second of the night proved to be the game winner as the Toros topped Willmar. Cal Levis and Matt Kochanowski got on the scoresheet while Nolan Christy also lit the lamp for North Iowa. Sam Holm had two points for Willmar while Luke McCarthy, Christian Kankelfrtitz and Connor Garcia all netted goals for the WarHawks. Connor Graham stopped 36 shots for Mason City while Zack Ortolano made 28 saves in the loss.
New Ulm 3 @ Alexandria 5 - Ryan Hadland and Sean Kenny each picked up a goal and two assists as the Alexandria Blizzard defeated the New Ulm Steel 5-3. Ethan Moerke, Charlie Larsen and Justin Wasvick all got on the scoreboard for Alexandria. Landen Schwantes, Gus Cantwell and Jack Laser all found the back of the net for New Ulm. Alex Lanront took home the win with 26 saves while Dixon Ehlers was dealt the loss with 39 saves on the night.
Minnesota 1 @ Granite City 5 - Five different Lumberjacks lit the lamp as Granite City defeated Minnesota by a score of 5-1. Finnigan Greeley and Jack Louko each had a goal and an assist. Kyle Mortenson, Andrew Butler and AJ Schemenauer all scored in the win for Granite City. Ryan Wallin stopped 16 shots to pick up the win in the blue paint. Garrett Burroughs had the lone tally for Minnesota while Matthew Ryynanen took the loss in goal as he made 30 saves.
Peoria 1 @ Milwaukee 4 - The Milwaukee Power brought the Peoria Mustangs winning streak to a screeching halt as they won by a score of 4-1. Patrick Toomey had a goal and an assist while Riley Planey, Matthew Ebersole and Luke Nemeth all put the puck in the back of the net for Milwaukee. Perry Lagatuz had the only goal for Peoria in the loss. Brett Holmer scooped up the win for the Power by making 42 saves. Kason Yamada stopped 34 shots for Peoria in the loss.
