Sunday Wrap-Up: Drillers cruise to three-game sweep
Louisiana 5 @ Austin 1 – Brody Neish had two goals and an assist to lead the Drillers to a 5-1 win and three-game sweep of the Ice Bats. The Drillers jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 1st period goals from Hampus Ohlsson-Ornelius, Aron Lundgren, and two from Neish. Austin Manns added a 3rd period goal to make it 5-0. Austin’s lone goal came late in the 3rd period from Jaylen Mendez. Drillers goalie William Carney made 20 saves in the win, while Bryson Frazee made 49 saves in the loss.
TX RoadRunners 4 @ Mid Cities 2 – Four different players scored for the RoadRunners and Eitan Geralnik had three assists as Texas completed a three-game sweep against the Stars thanks to a 4-2 win on Sunday. Matvey Ivanov, Jack Herron, Kyle Portlock, and Tyler Love had the goals for the RoadRunners, while Keegan McArthur and Joseph Duncan scored for Mid Cities. Alex Opalacz made 15 saves in the win, while Cole Eckert made 48 saves in the loss.
TX Brahmas 5 @ New Mexico 2 – The Brahmas claimed the rubber match of a three-game set in New Mexico thanks to a 5-2 win on Sunday. Wyatt Witham had a hat-trick and Aaron Best had three points in the win. Best and Witham got the scoring going in the 2nd period to put the Brahmas ahead 2-0. New Mexico made it 2-1 on a goal from Liam Mooney, but before the period was over, a goal from Trent Barker made it 3-1 for the Brahmas. Witham then scored two more goals in the 3rd period to put the game away for the Brahmas. Ethan Secord had the other goal in the Ice Wolves loss. Brendan Forden made 36 saves in the win.
Danbury 3 @ Long Beach 0 – Thanks to a 37-save shutout from Ryan Maguire, the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks moved into sole possession of 3rd place in the East thanks to a 3-0 win over Long Beach on Sunday. Three different players scored for the Jr. Hat Tricks, including Denis Radchenko in the 2nd period and Lou Caulfield and Devin Perkins in the 3rd period. Sharks goalie Colten McIntyre made 29 saves in the loss.
El Paso 3 @ Atlanta 6 – Robbie Aranos scored twice as the Capitals took the rubber match of their three-game set with El Paso thanks to a 6-3 win. Aranos scored in the 1st and 3rd period and Atlanta also got goals from Joe McLaughlin, Anthony O’Neal, Austin Micale, and Nick Jameus. For the Rhinos, Jonathan Kotsilidis scored twice and Landon Albrecht also had a goal. Damian Vandanacker had 27 saves in the win, while Philip O’Neill made 27 saves in the loss.
Bay State 3 @ Northeast 7 – Tyler Ramm had three goals and three assists to lead the Generals to a 7-3 win over Bay State. Gabe Coppo, Davis Kinne, and Ramm had goals in the 1st period. Ramm scored twice more in the 2nd period, along with a goal from Matthew Nuzzolilo, and Coppo added another goal in the 3rd period to pace the Generals. The Bobcats goals came from Nate Mastrony, Brian Woak, and Jake Rossignol. Ian Kangas made 25 saves in the win.
Wausau 4 @ St. Louis 8 – Jacob Heuerman had a hat-trick and two assists to lead the Jr. Blues to an 8-4 home win over the Cyclones. Wausau had a 4-3 lead at one point behind goals from Gabe Randel, Matthew Witt, Adam Wiggins, and Dylan Chapman. Two goals from Heuerman and one from Carter Eifert kept the Jr. Blues close until the 2nd and 3rd periods when they erupted for five straight goals, including the third from Heuerman and others from Ryan Callahan, Aarom Hemmer, Sean Boehm, and Tyler Williams. Jordan Behnen made 38 saves in the win.
