Saturday Scores: Central shake-up as Cyclones, Power sweep
Milwaukee forward Max Erstad had four points in a weekend road sweep of the Minnesota Loons.
Wausau 6 @ Peoria 0: The Cyclones dominated in their Saturday night matchup against Peoria, shutting them out 6-0. The first goal of the contest came 36 seconds into the 2nd period as Ricky Nelson buried his 10th of the season. Hayden Shoemake doubled the lead 12:35 into the period. In the final frame the Cyclones heated up as Cael Bolton, Gage Vierzba, Zac Maupin, and Josh Christofferson all found the back of the net. Ryan Burke picked up the shutout victory, completing the night with a perfect 42 for 42 statline. Joseph Ambroffi kept out 23 of 29 in the loss.
Milwaukee 5 @ Minnesota 3: The Milwaukee Power topped the Minnesota Loons in a 5-3 final score. In the 1st period, Milwaukee got ahead 1-0 with a goal from Connor O’Neal. In the second the Loons evened the game 1-1 as Phil Cebrian-Boldyrev scored. Later in the period, Max Erstad took the lead back for the Power 2-1. In the third Minnesota added two goals as Sebastian Schuehle and George Moore for a 3-2 score. The power went on an offensive onslaught scoring three unanswered with Bryce Garber, Max Erstad and Jack Wojnowski for a 5-3 final. Brett Holmer got the win stopping 31 shots.
Austin 4 @ El Paso 1: After falling in El Paso Friday night, the Ice Bats bounced back to defeat the Rhinos 4-1 and tie up the three-game series. In the 1st, Noah Easterson got El Paso on the board early, but Sebastian Hale tallied a pair of goals to give the visitors a lead through one. After a scoreless 2nd, Hale picked up another to bag a hat trick and extend the lead 7:51 into the 3rd. Hale scored another for good measure ten minutes later in the period to seal the victory. Collin Lemanski picked up the win making 41 saves on 42 shots. Christopher Burns kept out 11 for the Rhinos.
Long Beach 1 @ Norwich 3: The Sea Captains flipped the script on their matchup Saturday night, taking down the Sharks 3-1. After a scoreless opening period, Jack Kinahan broke the deadlock with his 15th goal of the season on the powerplay. Brian Essing tickled twine just over a minute later to double the lead. Logan Plante got Long Beach on the board 16:31 into the final frame but Jacob Begich sealed it with an empty netter with 27 seconds remaining in regulation. Brendan Pellerito made 20 saves on 21 shots faced in the win while Ryo Murakami made 28 stops for the Sharks.
New Jersey 3 @ Bay State 1: New Jersey scored a goal in all three periods in their victory over the Bobcats. Brian Woak gave Bay State an early lead with a score 2:51 into the contest. Nick Trabb tied the game in the 1st period 13:38 in unassisted. William Fliss scored the eventual game winner 2:24 into the middle frame, his first goal in the NA3HL. Ryan Talorico buried a dagger 12:16 into the 3rd period to seal it. Jake Agoglia was nearly perfect in between the pipes for New Jersey, keeping out all but one of 33 shots faced. AJ Cooper made 34 saves for Bay State.
Alexandria 2 @ Willmar 3 (SO): Christian Kankelfritz scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift his WarHawks over the Blizzard 3-2. Matt McIntyre opened the scoring with a goal for Alexandria 9:01 into the 2nd period. Bazl Cook extended the lead early in the final frame before Spencer Bergman and Christian Kankelftritz scored consecutive goals to tie the game and send it to an eventual shootout. Zackary Ortolano stopped all three shootout attempts and 34 shots in the victory. Kyle Abrahamson made 37 saves for Alexandria.
New Ulm 0 @ Granite City 8: The Lumberjacks dominated on home ice in the Armadillo Deck Sports Arena, shutting out the Steel 8-0. Andrew Butler got Granite City on the board in the 1st period 18:43 in. Brett Robinson and Ashton Ericksen both tallied goals in the 2nd. Granite City put the game out of reach in the 3rd asRobinson, Parker Comstock, Finnigan Greeley, Tucker Skime, and Jacob McPartland all tickled twine. Paul Cassin picked up the win making a perfect 15 for 15 saves. Dixon Ehlers kept out 30 shots in the loss for New Ulm.
St. Louis 1 @ Oregon 9: The Tradesmen kept up their pace from Friday night, dominating the Jr. Blues 9-1. Carter Watters led the goal sheet, potting two goals for Oregon. Bryce Stensrud, Max Cohen, Cooper Routheau, Dayne Deanovich, and Will Falconer all put up multi-point performances as well. Aidan Besedic scored the lone goal for St. Louis. Tyler Fromolz kept out 32 of 33 shots in the victory. Jordan Behnen made 47 saves and Ian Zeumer stopped 7 of 8 for St. Louis.
Atlanta 4 @ TX Brahmas 5 (OT): The Texas Brahmas and the Atlanta Capitals decided the winner of their contest in overtime fashion, 5-4. The Capitals scored in the first period with a goal from Harrison Flaacke for a 1-0 lead. The Brahmas answered back with two goals with James Provenzale and Wyatt Witham for a 2-1 lead. In the second period, Nick Jameus evened the game 2-2. Texas answered with a goal from Ryan Spreyne for a 3-2 lead. Atlanta evened the game again 3-3 with a goal from Marcus Glenn. Kirill Konoplianko took back the lead for the Brahmas, 4-3. In the third Nick Jameus added his second of the night to even the game 4-4. In the extra frame, Benjamin Mondou took the win scoring just twenty-one seconds in for a 5-4 final. Riley Gorman took the win in net for the Brahmas stopping 25 shots.
Mid Cities 3 @ TX RoadRunners 6: The Texas RoadRunners ran past the Mid Cities Stars with a final score of 6-3. The RoadRunners opened up the first period with a 3-0 lead with Kristoffer Svensson scoring and Tyler Love scoring twice. In the second, Texas added two more goals as Matvey Ivanov and Nick Lucas scored for a 5-0 lead. The Stars added a late goal from Micheal Kennedy, 5-1. In the third Matvey Ianov added his second of the night for a 6-1 RoadRunners lead. The Stars added back-to-back goals with Grant Hanifen and Dakota Brandom to end the game with a final score of 6-3. Nash Wilson took the win in net for Texas stopping 24 shots.
Gillette 1 @ Helena 2: The Helena Bighorns edged past the Gillette Wild in a 2-1 score. Tyler Bloom got the Bighorns ahead in the first period. In the third Dylan Cunningham netted the second goal of the night for Helena to take a 2-0 lead. Later in the game, Isaac Young scored for the Wild. Jessee Schindel got the win in net, turning away 39 shots.
Yellowstone 3 @ Sheridan 4 (OT): The Sheridan Hawks won in overtime against the Yellowstone Quake, 4-3. Late in the first Teagean Scheurer scored for the Quake. In the second Brayson Bennett added to the Yellowstone lead, 2-0. Parker Norling added a late goal to get the Hawks on the board, 2-1. In the third the Hawks rallied scoring two goals with Nathan Awoyemi and Danny Shelden. Late in the period, PJ Comose evened the game to force overtime. In the extra frame, Parker Norling scored the game winner for the Hawks, 4-3. Xuas Landry earned the in net stopping 32 shots.
Butte 7 @ Bozeman 1: The Butte Cobras took care of the Bozeman Icedogs in a 7-1 final. Butee added 3 goals in the first period with Nick Bradshaw scoring twice and Patrick Crooks for a 3-0 lead. In the second Anthony Johnson added to the Cobras lead, 4-0. Bozeman got on the board with their only goal of the game as Spencer Wilkinson scored, 4-1. Butte replied back with a goal from Patrick Crooks again for a 5-1 lead. In the third, the Cobras had back-to-back hat-trick goals as Nick Bradshaw and Patrick Crooks saw hats fly as they ended the game with a final of 7-1. Caleb Cross was fantastic in net as the turned away 33 of the 34 shots he saw.
