Sunday Wrap-Up: Winning streak hits 6 for Ice Wolves in sweep

Mason City forward Carter Newpower had eight points in three wins this past weekend, including the overtime-winning goal on Sunday.

Mid Cities 0 @ New Mexico 20 – Stanley Hubbard had a career-high six-point night, which included a hat-trick and three assists and Edmond O’Connell and Braeden Whitesell also had six points as New Mexico beat Mid Cities 20-0 to extend their winning streak to six straight games. O’Connell had four goals, Jo Kawagishi, Ryan Kerr, and Zak Wentwrth each scored twice, and Fletcher Burnett, Stryder Ball, Easton Armstrong, Jaden Stiller, Spencer Lund, Max Chagovets, and Whitesell also scored in the win. Pierson Haislet made 17 saves in the shutout.

Willmar 3 @ Mason City 4 (OT) – The Toros picked up their third win of the weekend as they edged the WarHawks, 4-3 in overtime. Mason City scored once in each period in regulation as Dakota Lenz, Matt Kochanowski, and Colin Hedland all found the back of the net. All three of Willmar’s goals came in the 2nd period as Jake Hosszu, Luke McCarthy, and Sam Holm scored. Just over a minute into overtime, Carter Newpower netted the game-winner. Connor Graham made 26 saves in the win, while Zachary Ortolano made 18 saves in the loss.

Norwich 2 @ Northeast 4 – The Generals won their 10th straight game and closed in on another division title thanks to a 4-2 win over the 2nd place Sea Captains. Four different players scored for the Generals including Matthew Nuzzolilo in the 1st period, Sean Gorman and Michael Arsenault in the 2nd period, and Phil Feinberg in the 3rd period. Jacob Begich and Brian Essing had goals for Norwich in the loss. Ian Kangas made 20 saves in the win, while Brendan Pellerito made 31 saves in the loss.

Louisiana 3 @ El Paso 2 (OT) – The Drillers moved into 2nd place in the South Division as they won their 5th straight game thanks to a 3-2 overtime win in El Paso. Rory Neish and Thomas Mougin had the goals in regulation for the Drillers, while Mike Sobaski and Tristen Elmhurst scored for the Rhinos. The game-winner came less than a minute into overtime off the stick of Daniel Crutcher. William Carney made 17 saves in the win, while Phillip O’Neill made 28 saves in the loss.

Bay State 2 @ Danbury 8 – Danbury picked up their second win of the weekend as Roman Winicki had a hat-trick and an assist in an 8-2 win over the Bobcats. Oleg Egorov had a goal and three assists and Jack Klunk, Nick Rogers, Kenny Granacker, and Seth Beagle also scored in the win. Bay State got goals from Leonard Litwin and Noah Wilk in the loss. Danbury goalie Braden Henderson made 28 saves in the win.

Rochester 3 @ Milwaukee 0 – Tate Cothern stopped all 14 shots that came his way for his fourth shutout of the season as the Grizzlies blanked Milwaukee, 3-0. Spencer Klotz and Austin Meers scored in the 1st period and Erik Hernborn added a 2nd period goal for Rochester. Milwaukee goalie Brett Holmer made 40 saves in the loss.

New Ulm 2 @ St. Louis 4 – Jacob Heuerman had two goals and an assist and Ian Zeumer made 52 saves to lead the Jr. Blues to a 4-2 home win over the Steel. Aaron Hemmer had a 1st period goal and Connor McCaffrey scored in the 2nd period for the Jr. Blues, while Heuerman scored both of his tallies in the 3rd period. Cooper Kantola and Griffin Lennes scored for the Steel. Alex Benson made 29 saves in the loss.

Long Beach 2 @ New Jersey 3 (OT) – The Titans stayed in the East Division Playoff hunt thanks to a 3-2 overtime win over the 4th place Sharks. New Jersey took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period on a goal from Payton Forbes. Long Beach took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Zac Kretzschmer and Dylan Harbour. Roy Shaver tied the game late in regulation for the Titans and then Kurt Johnson’s power play goal won it in OT. Daniel Antal made 41 saves in the win, while Ryo Murakami made 36 saves in the loss.
