Friday Finals: Bighorns roll to 11th straight win

Rochester goalie Tate Cothern helped his team regain their lead atop the Central Division with a 3-1 win on Friday night.

Great Falls 0 @ Helena 8 – Bighorns goalie Keaton French stopped all 26 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season as Helena blanked Great Falls, 8-0. Helena led 2-0 after one period with goals from Cade Holland and Dylan Cunningham. In the 2nd period, Tyler Bloom scored twice and Tyler Alldredge also added a goal. In the 3rd period, goals from Thomas Hollon, Mason Eggen, and Harlan Wojtusik completed the 8-0 final. Americans goalie Jake Regan made 61 saves in the loss.

Gillette 11 @ Butte 2 – The Wild got two goals from Silas Hughes as they bombarded the Cobras in an 11-2 road win in Butte. Gillette took a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Hipsag and Wyatt Schmitz. Butte stayed close in the 2nd period with goals from Cade Wessman and Patrick Crooks, but Gillette pulled away with four goals in the 2nd period from Tyler Sunagel, Adam Severson, Connor Wendell, and Isaac Young, and five more goals in the 3rd period, including two from Hughes and others from Jace Johnson, Saizha Norwegian, and Wylee Gladen. Jake Turek made 35 saves in the win.

Yellowstone 6 @ Bozeman 4 – Six different players scored for the Quake and Steven Kelley made 47 saves in a 6-4 win in Bozeman. The Quake scored twice in each period which included 1st period goals from Teagan Scheurer and Sebe Perez, two 2nd period goals from Ben Carlson and Wyatt O’Donogue, and 3rd period goals from Benjamin Kluza and Zac Orwig. Bozeman goals came from Braden Koliha, Ben Fries, Sam Ingram, and Spencer Wilkinson.

Sheridan 3 @ Badlands 2 (SO) – Patric Loeffler made 29 saves for the Hawks in a 3-2 shootout win in Badlands. The Sabres took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Izaiah Phillips. Sheridan answered with a power play goal from Teejay Torgrimson. In the 2nd period, the Sabres regained their one-goal edge with a goal from Payton Stauffacher. In the 3rd period, a goal from Tie Schumacher knotted the game at 2-2. In the shootout, goals from Schumacher and Josh Humphreys secured the win. Sabres goalie Zach Broxterman made 44 saves in the loss.

Mid Cities 0 @ TX Brahmas 2 – Riley Gorman stopped all 13 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season as the Brahmas shutout the Stars, 2-0. Both Brahmas goals came in the 1st period as Michael Imala and Trent Barker both scored. Mid Cities goalie Garrett Johnson made 38 saves in the loss.

Oregon 1 @ Milwaukee 4 – Milwaukee goalie Adam Prokop made 38 saves to lead his team to a 4-1 win over the Tradesmen. Milwaukee jumped ahead 2-0 with goals from Max Mudge and Michael Dalaly. Oregon cut the lead down to 2-1 late in the 2nd period with their lone goal from Max Rotsaert. Later in the game, goals from Blake Keller and Patrick Toomey secured the 4-1 win. Oregon goalie Tyler Fromolz made 28 saves in the loss.

Alexandria 3 @ New Ulm 2 (OT) – The Blizzard moved one step closer to clinching a playoff spot thanks to a 3-2 overtime win in New Ulm. All the scoring in regulation came in the 2nd period as Parker Anthony and Matt McIntyre scored for Alexandria with Griffin Lennes and Charlie Sullivan answering for New Ulm. Just :36 seconds into overtime, Blizzard forward Ryan Hadland netted the game-winner. Blizzard goalie Alex Lamont made 28 saves in the win, while Dixon Ehlers made 44 saves in the loss.

Granite City 8 @ Willmar 2 – Coby Weber had two goals and an assist as the Lumberjacks cruised to an 8-2 win in Willmar. It was the Warhawks who had the early momentum and took a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Tyler Misialek and Michael Sweetland. The Lumberjacks then erupted for five goals in the 2nd period, including two goals from Weber and others from Jacob McPartland, Sam Brennan, and Finnigan Greeley. In the 3rd period, Granite City added three more goals from Ashton Ericksen, Parker Mitchell. And Lincoln Bielenberg-Howarth. Paul Cassin made 26 saves in the win.

St. Louis 4 @ Wausau 5 – Gage Vierzba had two goals and an assist to lead the Cyclones to a 5-4 win. Wausau took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a goal from Ricky Nelson. The Jr. Blues then seized control in the 2nd period, scoring all four of their goals as Connor Westbrock scored twice and Brady Ernst and Jacob Heuerman also scored, while Adam Wiggins and Chase Chapman scored for Wausau. In the 3rd period, Vierzba scored twice to give the Cyclones the close 5-4 win. Collin Lemanski made 30 saves in the win, while Mason Brooks made 32 saves in the loss.

Rochester 3 @ Peoria 1 – The Grizzlies got 18 saves from Tate Cothern as they handed Peoria their fourth straight loss thanks to a 3-1 win on Friday. Rochester jumped ahead 1-0 in the 1st period with a goal from Luke Morrisette. Ryan Berglund scored in the 2nd period to push the lead to 2-0. In the 3rd period, the Mustangs netted their lone goal from Justin Hubble to make it 2-1, but a goal later in the period from Marco Sandelgard made it a 3-1 final. Cam Pendleton made 37 saves in the loss.

Louisiana 2 @ New Mexico 1 – Drillers goalie William Carney made 29 saves to lead his team to their second straight win in New Mexico by a 2-1 score. New Mexico was on the board first thanks to a 1st period goal from Liam Mooney. The Drillers answered back later in the period with a goal from Brody Neish. The game-winner came early in the 3rd period off the stick of Jack Lambert. Ice Wolves goalie Pierson Haislet made 26 saves in the loss.

New Jersey 1 @ Danbury 2 (SO) – Danbury goalie Ryan Maquire made 23 saves and then stopped 9 of 10 shooters in the shootout to lift his team to a 2-1 win. Payton Forbes scored for New Jersey and Cooper Betancourt scored for Danbury in regulation. In the shootout, Oleg Egorov and Lucas Nafe had the goals for Danbury. Titans goalie Daniel Antal made 33 saves in the loss.
