RoadRunners goalie Hein signs NAHL tender

February 21, 2023

The Texas RoadRunners of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that Top Prospects goaltender Hunter Hein has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Oklahoma Warriors of the NAHL’s South Division.

Hein, 19, has appeared in 20 games with the ‘Runners this season and posted a top five league-leading 2.19 goals against average and a .933 save percentage and is 13-5-2 on the season. The 6’4/195 lbs. native of Phoenix, AZ, was also recently selected to and played in the 2023 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team, which went undefeated at the event.

Hein also appeared in one game with the NAHL’s Odessa Jackalopes and suffered a 4-0 loss at the NAHL Showcase early in the season before being released to the RoadRunners where he has been nothing more than fantastic.

This is Hein’s third season playing in the NA3HL for the RoadRunners. He has appeared in 52 career regular season games and posted a 30-17-6 record.

“Hunter let me know that Augsburg University was in contact with him for the second semester during the Blaine showcase. My advice was to take the offer but also told Hunter it was a family decision.  At the same time the Northeast Generals of the NAHL were interested in affiliating Hein and I also received a call from Garrett Roth with OKC stating he was also interested in Hein for next season.  Hein and Roth both spoke on the phone about the Augsburg offer and what OKC was thinking about Hein’ future.  The two came to the agreement that it would benefit everyone if Hein tendered with the Warriors for next season and played out his last year of eligibility in the NAHL.  Hunter turned down the opportunity to play this season at Babson as he felt the school was not what he was looking for educationally.  I have been speaking to UMASS Boston and Peter Beslisle about Hein for after next season and they will be keeping tabs over the next season to see where Hein may fit,” said RoadRunners head coach Mike Beavis.

The RoadRunners are extremely happy for their netminder and feel that Hein’s physical ability combined with his 4.4 GPA and high-test scores may be a great fit for NCAA D-1 and D-3 programs in the not-too-distant future.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on November 1st. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2023 NAHL Draft.
