Friday Finals: Oregon advances thanks to double OT win
Central Division Semi-Finals, Game 2: Milwaukee 2 @ Oregon 3 (2OT) (Oregon wins series, 2-0): The Oregon Tradesmen advance to the Central Division finals after taking back-to-back wins against the Milwaukee Power in a 3-2 double overtime win. In the first period, Carter Watters got the Tradesmen on the board for a 1-0 score. In the second frame it was all Milwaukee as the Power scored with Connor O’Neal and Blake Keller for a 2-1 score. In the third period, Dillon Schmidt scored a late goal that would even the game 2-2 and force overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the game went into a second overtime period where Dillon Schmidt would net his second of the night to take the win sending the Tradesmen to the Division finals, 3-2. Tyler Fromolz took the win in net as he backstopped 42 of 44 shots in the win.
Central Division Semi-Finals, Game 1: Peoria 0 @ Rochester 2 (Rochester leads series, 1-0) – Grizzlies goalie Tate Cothern stopped all 20 shots that came his way as Rochester opened up defense of their Fraser Cup title with a 2-0 win over the visiting Mustangs. Both of the Grizzlies goals came in the 1st period as Luke Sawicky and Luke Morrisette both found the back of the net, which would be enough for the win. Peoria goalie Cam Pendleton made 28 saves in the loss.
East Division Semi-Finals, Game 2: Danbury 1 @ Norwich 3 (Series tied, 1-1) – Norwich forward Jack Kinahan had two goals and an assist as the Sea Captains stayed alive thanks to a 3-1 win over Danbury in Game 2. After a scoreless 1st period, the Sea Captains opened up a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Kinahan and Jacob Begich. Danbury made it 2-1 later in the period with a goal from Robert Martufi. In the 3rd period, Kinahan added his second goal of the game with a power play goal to make it a 3-1 final. Brendan Pellerito made 22 saves in the win, while Ryan Maguire ade 25 saves in the loss.
Frontier Division Semi-Finals, Game 1: Helena 3 @ Butte 2 (OT) (Helena leads series,1-0): A late goal from the Bighorns tied the game to force overtime where Helena would score under a minute in for a 3-2 win. In the first period, Braden Cunningham scored for a 1-0 Helena lead. The action picked back up in the third where Butte would score back to back with Tyler Tosch and Patrick Crooks for a 2-1 lead. With forty seconds remaining, Cunningham netted his second of the night forcing overtime with a 2-2 score. In the extra period, Zach Turner scored to win the game 3-2 for the Bighorns to take a 1-0 series lead. Keaton French took the win in net after stopping 24 shots.
Frontier Division Semi-Finals, Game 1: Sheridan 3 @ Gillette 5 (Gillette leads series,1-0): The Gillette Wild defeated the Sheridan Hawks in a 5-3 final score. Gillette took a 2-0 lead in the first period with Alec Waller and Sky Solig. Nearing the end of the first period, Danny Shelden got the Hawks on the board for a 2-1 score. In the second, the Wild added another goal with Isaac Young for a 3-1 lead. The Hawks answered back to get within a goal for a 3-2 score with Makhai Sparks. Later in the middle frame, Solig netted his second of the game, 4-2. In the third, Saizha Norwegian scored the final goal for the Wild for a 5-2 score. Late in the final period, Joseph Epplin found the back of the net for the Hawks to end the game with a 5-3 score. Cole Wehaton was fantastic between the pipes as he stopped 42 shots in the win.
South Division Semi-Finals, Game 2: New Mexico 4 @ TX RoadRunners 1 (Series tied, 1-1) – The Ice Wolves evened the series at 1-1 thanks to 32 saves from Krzysztof Jakubowski in a 4-1 win in Game 2. New Mexico jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Liam Mooney and Hunter Fischbach. The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 2nd period as the Ice Wolves struck two more times on goals from Ethan Secord and Ryan Talorico. The RoadRunners would get on the board early in the 3rd period with their lone goal from TJ Lipsky. Hunter Hein made 19 saves in the loss.
West Division Semi-Finals, Game 1: Mason City 2 @ Alexandria 3 (Alexandria leads series, 1-0) – The Blizzard record a goal in each period and got 24 saves from Konrad Kausch as they edged the Toros in Game 1, 3-2. Jake Whitmore opened the scoring for Alexandria in the 1st period. That was answered with a goal from Mason City’s Hayden Siegel to make it 1-1. Sean Kenny scored the only goal of the 2nd period to put the Blizzard ahead, 2-1. In the 3rd period, the Blizzard took a 3-1 lead on a goal from Joe Gronholz. The Toros made it 3-2 later in the 3rd period with a power play goal from Carter Newpower, but could not get the equalizer late in the game. Toros goalie Connor Graham made 37 saves in the loss.
West Division Semi-Finals, Game 1: Willmar 1 @ Granite City 7 (Granite City leads series, 1-0): Jacob McPartland and Zak Kennet both added two goals and an assist in the Lumberjacks 7-1 win over the Willmar WarHawks to take game one in the series. In the opening frame, Tucker Skime got the Lumberjacks ahead 1-0. In the second, Jacob McPartland netted his first of the night for a 2-0 Lumberjacks lead. Willmar answered back with Micheal Sweetland, 2-1. Later in the middle frame, Paul Huglen scored for a 3-1 Granite City lead. In the third period it was all Lumberjacks as Zak Kennet scored twice, Jacob McParland and Kyle Mortenson added for a 7-1 final score.
